Patients at the St. Johns Well Child & Family Center in South Los Angeles have recently started asking for copies of their medical records. Some request extra medicine from their doctors, taking home as much as theyll supply.
They want to have a stockpile, clinic Chief Executive Jim Mangia said. Theres this tremendous fear that on their way to take their kids to school, or on their way to the clinic, or on their way into the store, theyre going to get picked up and deported.
Healthcare providers say President Trumps aggressive moves against illegal immigration are posing risks to the health of many Californians, as patients cancel medical appointments or wait until the last minute to seek treatment.
Others are asking to leave public programs because theyre worried their personal information will end up with the federal government. Even more seem to be feeling anxious or depressed because of possible raids, prompting some providers to offer special training to deal with such mental health issues among immigrants.
And the recent anxiety has extended beyond those in the country without legal authorization, health advocates say.
St. Johns, which treats more immigrants who lack legal status than any clinic in the state, often hears from patients who are afraid theyll run into federal authorities on their way to the clinic, employees said. In the last several months, staff members have practiced forming a human chain around the facility, in case immigration agents do show up one day.
Health advocates say immigrants reluctance to seek medical care is a step backward for a state that spent years encouraging people to sign up for health insurance and make regular doctor visits under the Affordable Care Act.

It is a business for these providers. You cant have a welfare state without clients.

Good!
Remember when Obama was giving his State of the Onion Address and promised that no illegal aliens would get Obamacare? And then Joe Wilson shouted, “You lie!” and the press had the vapors that he would DARE do such a thing. He narrowly avoided crucifixion.
Then Obamacare was passed, illegal aliens were encouraged to sign up in CA, and no one checked to see if they were signing up in the other states as well. Now we are supposed to feel guilty that these illegal cheaters are too scared to sign up for programs that they are not eligible to use.
It’s about time.
“Who is paying for their care?”
Those of us who pay taxes.
Awesome, perhaps someday citizens will be able to use emergency rooms again
I've also advocated terminating ALL foreign aid, then reinstating it only where it proves a direct benefit to the U.S. Let charity freely given take care of the poor and oppressed.
“When my wife got him to the ER, it was full of Hispanics there for strep throat.”
.
I agree with most of what you said. In fact it’s similar to what I’ve been saying for years (bill the governments for the healthcare of their citizens).
The only thing I don’t agree with is the 20% tax. IMO it’s not high enough. It should be between 50 to 80% to not only pay for the wall, but also to pay back the taxpayers for the social services that they have stolen from us.
Not only are illegal aliens taking jobs, they are driving wages down for all of us—except top management, who receive more for screwing up and getting fired than most of us earn in a lifetime.
Sample legislation.
A person found within the United States, having entered illegally, shall:
1. Receive fifty lashes on the back with a cat onine tails.
2. Be branded on both cheeks with the letter B for border crasher, said brand to be two inches tall.
3. Forfeit all monies and properties earned or amassed in the United States, wherever located.
4. Walk from where apprehended to the Mexican border on a diet of beans and tortillas, sleeping in the open.
6. On their journey, ejectees shall pick up trash, cut grass with scythes and other unpowered tools, trim roadside shrubbery, clean rest area toilets, and perform such other tasks as may be ordered, said tasks not to be unduly hazardous.
7. Any person seen with the letter B branded on the cheeks who is not a member of a guarded ejectee party may be shot and killed on sight by any U.S. citizen at any time.
8. Idiots may offer ejectees food and water if they like. The penalty for providing ejectees with arms or assisting them to escape shall be death by firing squad, following a guilty verdict in a trial to be conducted by three officers of the U.S. military.
9. Any attempt to bribe a guard is punishable by death, following a guilty verdict in a trial to be conducted by three officers of the U.S. military. A bribe can be monetary or in the form of goods and services, especially including carnal services.
10. Any guard accepting a bribe shall be executed following a guilty verdict in a trial to be conducted by three officers of the U.S. military.
12. The wall shall be completed prior to any further disbursal of salaries for any employee or elected official of the US Government.
13. The organization known as La Raza and all similar groups are hereby designated domestic enemies of the Constitution. Active membership in such organizations shall be punished by death.
Announce that and see how long it takes them to self-deport.
Good idea. We didn’t think of it because were just down the road from the hospital and my FiL is a recalcitrant old coot. My wife probably got him there faster than the ambulance would have.
I had enough trouble getting him to call the tow boat (accident was on a sail boat - fell through a hatch).
But definitely. Call the Ambulance.
Unfortunately, as long as Mexicans run Mexico that will never happen.
That was basically what I meant.
probably right.
They should not be getting healthcare. We don’t leave people bleeding in the streets but we should not be offering free healthcare. Just another magnet.
Sounds reasonable.
Just agreeing.
“A person found within the United States, having entered illegally, shall”
I’d add or anyone who overstays a visa or legal short term entry.
They could go back home, to the country in which they may legally reside. There, they would no longer need worry about being deported.
In the last several months, staff members have practiced forming a human chain around the facility, in case immigration agents do show up one day.
Arrest them too.
