SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak is shutting down his Facebook account as the social media giant struggles to cope with the worst privacy crisis in its history.
In an email to USA Today, Wozniak says Facebook makes a lot of advertising money from personal details provided by users. He says the profits are all based on the users info, but the users get none of the profits back.

I only created a facebook account because I live in KY and most of my family is on the left coast or in the Chicago area. However, I’ve noticed over the years I use it less and less. There is very little on there that matters to me.
And, frankly, now that we all just text each other (or call), I go there very rarely.
I get a few messages a day, and almost all of them fall into three categories:
1. reminders or notifications of events I don’t care about.
2. reminders of what I posted a year, two years, etc. ago.
3. People posting on the Rethinking Hell facebook group.
Number 3 is the only one I really care about, though number 2 is interesting. It’s fun to see a post showing “this day two years ago” and my house is surrounded by a foot of snow in the picture, yet I’m enjoying a single malt on my deck and it’s 74 degrees.
But facebook, nowadays, is really mostly just ads in the news feed. Meh...
I have two accounts. A real one and a fake one. I use the fake one to easily post comments on various articles from liberal rags in the internet.
It’s a fun account. My fake person graduated from a big northeastern city and local college and works at a large place in the midwest.
I accept every single friend request I get, but never respond to anyone. But responding is really not a big deal since most of my several hundred friends live in Africa. And a lot of their posts are in Swahili.
I enjoy using Duckduckgo.com for my searches. They claim, at least, to not save your activity info.
I miss the days before the “www.” showed up. If you advertised anything...you got flamed.
Abandon Fecebook.
The wealth you provide is used against US.
OBAMA VISITS SILICON VALLEY -— tech bigwigs suck-up to Obama
F/B users about to be screwed. The genesis of Obama’s Stasi-like Democrat data base -—round one.
Let’s stroll down memory lane.
(hat tip edzo4)
ITEM-—Circa 3/13/17 Zuckerberg referred to a dinner he and other Silicon Valley leaders had about a month ago.
ITEM-—Heres the news article edzo4 dug up
http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2017/03/13/former-president-obama-visits-with-tech-leaders-in-silicon-valley/
ITEM-—it was not revealed who Obama met with during his visit to San Jose; as a private citizen, Obama is not obligated to say.
ITEM-—Edzo4 found this photo of the dinner from the Mercury News

ATTENDEES: Obama, Larry Ellison, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Eric Schmidt, Reed Hastings.
Why isnt Maxine Waters being subpoenaed? She blabbed about the data base Obama compiled containing intimate data on all of us that he intends to use in Democrat elections.
Waters knows a lot. She certainly has info WRT Facebook helping Obama compile very specific details about Americans Obama intends to use exclusively for Democrats.
The NYT reported in 2013: Obama suggested to his supporters: Why not try sifting through my supporters Facebook pages in search of friends who might be on my campaigns list of the most persuadable voters? Then my campaign could ask the self-identified supporters to bring their undecided friends along.
The Facebook looting, as the Obamatons saw it, could also
<><> (A) get supporters to urge friends to register to vote,
<><> (B) get them to vote early,
<><> (C) get them to volunteer, and,
<><> (D) get them to donate to him.
(Source: 2013 NYT story about Obamas reelection campaign).
The double standard is shocking: As the criticism of Trump escalates, you recognize that the ultra-liberal suck-up Zuckerberg uses F/B data as a political tool.
All of the F/B fallout magnifies the confession by a former Obama campaign parasite that they basically took whatever they wanted from Facebook, with Facebooks blessing.
Say what? With F/Bs blessing? Isnt this an in-kind campaign contribution. Was it reported to the FEC?
WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO BELIEVE Cambridge Analytica worked for the Trump campaign, and either stole, hacked, or through some other nefarious way mined personal information from 50 million Americans and used it to target ads on Facebook to people likely receptive to them.......activities that were lauded as leading edge stuff when Democrats did it.
WHERE WAS ZUCKERBERG when the Obama campaign used Facebook as a campaign tool?
Buying another used tee shirt?
When you’ve lost the Woz, you’ve lost the Internet.
Get ready for Zuckerbergss stoop and scoop act.
This is what Zuckerberg thinks of his users:
I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS....people submitted to Facebook. They trust me. Dumb fucks. (The Register, May 14, 2010)
Zuckerberg's insult to Facebook users is coming as the Facebook CEO "testifies before the House Energy and Commerce Committee on April 11.
Apparently, Steve Wozniak is not shutting down his Facebook account because he disagrees with their anti-privacy policies and actions, he is shutting it down because they are not communist enough for him.
Duck duck Go produces poor results
Its true, every time you do anything electronic its tracked/logged and thus subject to sale to advertisers or other companies wishing to gain your business. This means: anything you do on the Internet, any phone call you make, any bank account you open (any type from simple checking to an investment account) anytime you submit/pay your taxes online, anytime you use a store discount card (like a bonus card at a grocery store or gas station to save on gas) anything.
Bottom line: Its impossible to avoid the tracking of buying/consumer history unless one literally has a stash of cash under the bed, only gets paid in cash (not by check that you then cash but by cash only) and pays for ones bills with either cash or really better, via money order purchased at a convenience store where there are no cameras. Period.
Thats the only way to be off the grid or have gone Galt. Anything more, any computer use ever, any phone call ever made with a phone in your name, any tax ever paid electronically, even if drawn from a bank not in your name, any such instance ever, and youre on the grid. For life. So that means anyone reading this now.
When I realized this reality about a decade ago now, I stopped trying to worry about whether or not some website was putting a tracking cookie on my browser (which is essentially what we are taking about here) to eventually lead me to an advertisement for a Charmin tissue paper instead of Puffs. Because thats ultimately what we are taking about here, just another way to target a person or group of people for ads they may find interesting.
The only possible real privacy concerns is the possibility the government could get a hold of your personal preferences about whatever, and typecast you as a threat to the State based on what you bought in the past, or what ad for whatever you found interesting (because believe me, corporations dont care about how moral you are they just want your money, so they arent a threat to anything but your wallet). So, the only real threat here is the government using our dataz against us, as some kind of population control.
Could that happen? Absolutely. Speaking for myself though, Im just too tired of other realities now to worry about that. So if the government can somehow use the fact I prefer Charmin over Puffs to my detriment, well congratulations to them, because that fact is out there already for me. Cant do anything about it now.
And its out there for anyone reading this too, and you cant do anything about it now either.

The worst offender is probably LinkedIn, which has built a giant paid recruiting database out of people’s freely given info.
The other day, I posted an update to my family about my medical condition (had a motorcycle accident and screwed my knee bad). I mentioned that I was starting physical therapy. Within 10 minutes I was seeing ads for PT clinics in the area.
