How did Ted get out of the car (when the doors were closed) when she couldn’t?

Since he’s a Kennedy, he probably pushed her back out of his way to clear his exit from the submerged vehicle.

I am not sure how he got out. I would have to go back and read the couple of books I have of, maybe the movie shows it. I seem to remember the car hitting the water in one position and then the tide moved it to another position.

At the hearing poor Ted complained that she was pushing and hitting him. That was because he was standing on her while he exited, and he did not think to reach down and give her a helping hand.
