The morning of April 3 started as every other day when Kew Gardens resident M.K. Moore went out to walk his dogs, but on Metropolitan Avenue near Park Lane South, he began to see the shattered glass.

According to Moore, president of the Friends of Forest Park civic group, as many as 20 cars had shattered windows along Park Lane South all the way to 115th Street. Inside the cars, glove compartments and center consoles had been ripped open and peoples’ belongings were scattered out onto the sidewalk, Moore said.

A police source confirmed that eight reports of criminal mischief were received by the 102nd Precinct on April 3.

Since the crimes were filed as criminal mischief, that means none of the victims who reported their broken windows said any of their property was stolen. The problem is, Moore said, that not enough people report incidents like these to the police. …

In the heart of a major city, how does someone smash 20 car windows, rip apart each console, and scatter the debris on the sidewalk without being noticed?

I used to live in the Spring garden/Fairmount section of Philadelphia:The Semi-Gentrified divide between North Philadelphia and Center City. This was a common occurrence to wake up and car window(s) shattered. The police would give the attitude,”At least it was not stolen”. Most people never bother to report. I always had a “beater” car.

Where are the cops when there are “folks” who deserve to be shot?

Thanks to Comrade Wilhelm, probably apathetic and looking over their shoulder for Black Lies Matter and Sharptongue.

And why are cops issuing ludicrous ‘alerts’ rather than staking out an obvious hotspot of crime and nailing the greedy and lazy perps?

I keep hearing that I’m supposed to back the blue but they make it very difficult to do so with their obvious and pervasive sloth and excuse-making.

Take your anti-cop vendetta elsewhere.

“Take your anti-cop vendetta elsewhere.”

It’s called the First Amendment. Don’t like my opinion, TS! And BTW, there are any number of FReepers who feel just like I do. I’d love to see good law enforcement. Problem is, it doesn’t exist many places in this country today.

It’s better than it used to be.

“It’s better than it used to be.”

The problem is that where crime is rampant, law enforcement is unable to do a satisfactory job because there are too many $hit people. In those communities where the vast majority of the residents are good, law abiding folks who respect the cops, things are relatively good because the cops are not as fearful of being attacked. I deal with the PD where I own a building (problem with homeless) on a weekly, and sometimes daily basis. They are responsive and professional. I just wrote their Chief last week to thank him and his department for the good job they do.

Do you think that it’s possible that in a place like Queens there may be more than one obvious “hotspot”.

Quite possibly. But in Holmesian fashion I cleverly deduced from the headline that one particular area was a) concentrated, b) known to both citizens and police and c) nothing had been done about it.

And if there is more than one hotspot that is a further indictment of the police, not an exoneration of them.

When I left in 92 they were doing it in broad daylight.

Didn’t care who saw them.

Cops didn’t care either.

I see history repeating itself.

I see that as an indictment of the community, not the police.

It’s not an either/or scenario.

If a house was burning and the fire department’s response was to yell ‘Fire!’ it may be helpful to a point but it seems the taxpayers funding their operations might have a reasonable expectation of further action.
