The military will be armed, but only as a defensive measure
—
A) Are you sure?
B) Side arms only?
C) Full military arms: rifles, heavy weapons, armor, etc?
I am quite sure they were unarmed last time. Since in same support role, I doubt that will change.
From the Washington Post:
“While citizens might imagine the National Guard patrolling the muddy cane breaks along the Rio Grande in search of drug cartel incursions, many of the troops instead serve as stationary observers, a kind of neighborhood watch with M-16s, often perched 30 feet in the air in skyboxes, portable watchtowers the size of phone booths”
Of course the guard troops are going to
be allowed to defend themselves. Drug
traffickers are armed. It would be
crazy to place troops in harms way
without the ability to do so.
But, not ALL troops will be armed.
Those in “rear” areas for logistical,
or surveillance support, probably
won’t be. Some troops were armed in
both Bush’s and Obambi’s Guard
deployments.
Search “national Guard on the border pics”
and report back what you see. There are
many pictures of armed National Guard from
their past two deployments to the border.
Small arms will be admissible, depending
on assigned duties. Not all will be
allowed to carry. Some pics depict
practice runs, as you can see red tips
on the weapons. Some do not.
