WASHINGTON (AP) As Republicans run into a buzz saw of conservative criticism over a deficit-expanding new budget, GOP leaders and the White House are looking for ways to undo the damage by allowing President Donald Trump to rescind some of the spending he signed into law just 10 days ago.
Rolling back the funds would be a highly unusual move and could put some lawmakers in the potentially uncomfortable position of having to vote for specific spending opposed by a president from their party. But it would also offer Republicans a way to save face amid the backlash over the bill that conservatives, and Trump himself, complain gives too much money for Democratic priorities.
Trump has been talking with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., about the plan over the past couple of days, according to an aide to the House leader who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the private talks. It is not clear how widely the idea has been embraced by other top Republicans, including House Speaker Paul Ryan or Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, whose offices declined to discuss it.

It's highly unlikely the Senate will convict him, but if she, or any dem, gets a majority, it will happen very quickly. Their crazy base is demanding it.
It won't get Trump out of office, but will clog up the works beyond anyone's wildest dreams.
Yup.
I pre-paid half of my 2018 property taxes last December. Last time I can claim those.
But look on the bright side:
Google, Facebook, Amazon, and Twitter got Billions in tax cuts.
And they are such good friends of Conservatives and this President.
Cutting planned parenthood, NEA, and PBS has to do with the soul of this country.
$500 million to PP? To murder the most innocent among us?
Public schools are poisoning our youth with anti American, Godless indoctrination and Common Core. How do you think the useful idiots got to become useful idiots?
You might also might consider the shameful waste by the Pentagon to the tune of hundreds of billions. And the incredible costs of a PC/affirmative action military, both in dollars and morale.
As far as ‘entitlements’ - get rid of all the illegal parasites and bloated government (state and federal), and corporate welfare first. Then see what we have.
How did they raise taxes on 20%?
I’ve run the numbers all those things you named are miniscule dollar-wise compared to entitlements. Just do that you suggest we still g off the financial cliff.
Re:post 36:
I would also include the Republican party bosses like Karl Rove, et al.
More than a few good Constitution-respecting candidates were chosen by the electorate, only to get sandbagged by the Party - throwing the election to a Dem.
Also, if a Congressperson, when in, doesn’t toe the line, they get pretty bad treatment by the bosses during their tenure and especially when it comes to re-election time.
THEY need to be gone as well.
You’re missing the point.
Those things are corrosive to our culture and actually symptoms of the larger spending problems. You can’t see that?
Just wondering, what were your calculations on the total amount of ‘lost’ money and mismanaged money by the Pentagon and the Army? How about the cost of turning Navy ships around in mid course because some female who didn’t want to be part of a mission ‘accidentally’ got pregnant?
You got those numbers too? Mind sharing the total with us?
Thanks.
Really? The Founders set it up so that senators are elected?
“Really? The Founders set it up so that senators are elected?”
Obviously not.
They set it up so that the bicameral legislature would run the country, or should I say “steer” it?
They were established as the root of all power. Able to remove judges and presidents alike.
His base is strong, but no, the UniParty will do what they want and screw the voters.
Sorry but all those savings from “waste” is mostly myth!
(And no I am not saying be wasteful!)
You could zero out the USG personnel payroll and nothing changes, off the cliff we go. Every year the percentage of discretionary spending, bullets, bombers, beans, hardware, etc. as part of the overall spending is smaller. Entitlements, interest on the debt, one-other-thing-that-has-slipped-my-mind (Anyway its a have to pay!) gets larger. This belief that Uncle Sucker can take care of you cradle-to-grave, as well as other things became our prevailing philosophy long before there was any cultural rot. You’re putting the cart before the horse.
Once we get some more individual cuts (SIGNIFICANTLY MORE) and a 2nd, more modest corporate cut, we can go half-SALT — 1/2 * (income + sales + property) — for both individuals and corporations to try to stop state governments from raising their own taxes to the moon, while still respecting state sovereignty and localism in the federal tax code.
The Republicans did not raise taxes on 20% of their core. that’s just Democratic moronic talking points your echoing like a brain dead zombie. Stop scrapping in your diapers. You’re stinking up the place.
“thats just Democratic moronic talking points your echoing like a brain dead zombie”
Hey, dimwit, my taxes went up as did taxes on millions of others taking big property tax deductions.
Taxes went up on SOME people in every state in the union. A very large percentage of those were between $100k and $200K.
Get a clue.
When will Trump stop listening to Ryan and McConnell and go over their heads to the people? Now I hope.
Planned parenthood, NEA, PBS are good starting points. Shift their money to the wall account.
The SALT deduction is now capped at $10K. So, even though our tax rates have gone down a bit, some people in states with high property taxes, like Texas, Maryland and New York, end up paying more.
that was an accident Evidently when I copied and pasted the T was left behind.. The problem is Freerepublic doesn’t allow you to edit our post so once its done that is it..
