WASHINGTON (AP) As Republicans run into a buzz saw of conservative criticism over a deficit-expanding new budget, GOP leaders and the White House are looking for ways to undo the damage by allowing President Donald Trump to rescind some of the spending he signed into law just 10 days ago.
Rolling back the funds would be a highly unusual move and could put some lawmakers in the potentially uncomfortable position of having to vote for specific spending opposed by a president from their party. But it would also offer Republicans a way to save face amid the backlash over the bill that conservatives, and Trump himself, complain gives too much money for Democratic priorities.
Trump has been talking with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., about the plan over the past couple of days, according to an aide to the House leader who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the private talks. It is not clear how widely the idea has been embraced by other top Republicans, including House Speaker Paul Ryan or Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, whose offices declined to discuss it.

Which included everything the Democrats wanted, and more.
To top it off they continue to caution against firing Mueller, warning of "constitutional crisis".
Now they intend to convince you they are going to fix it, if you vote for them just one more time.
Wiki:
“...the President may request that Congress rescind appropriated funds. If both the Senate and the House of Representatives have not approved a rescission proposal (by passing legislation) within 45 days of continuous session, any funds being withheld must be made available for obligation. “
May pass the House, so some Kabuki PR value for those RINOs.
Vote for whoever you like, but I like the idea of revisiting some of the spending.
The spending should never have been enacted, and illustrates who the Republicans are working for. ‘
And it is most definitely not you, or me.
Baseline budgeting will have to be repealed before anything really gets cut.
Give the president the line item veto that he wants. Cut planned parenthood, NEA, PBS, and received love. Simple!
They better wise up unless they don’t care about being re-elected.
You hit the nail right on the head.
“May pass the House, so some Kabuki PR value for those RINOs.”
Correct.
This is not a real party effort. It’s cover for House Republicans.
This legislative agreement will NEVER pass the Senate, even without the filibuster rule.
Kabuki for the stupid.
“.... Cut planned parenthood, NEA, PBS, and received love. :.”
All peanuts! Entitlement programs are what’s killing us!
Those are the most difficult because almost everyone’s snout is in that trough!
I know that we are mad as hell. But we need to use caution! If the Democrats take over Trump will be impeached. I do worry about that..
Give the president the line item veto that he wants. Cut planned parenthood, NEA, PBS, and received love. Simple!
We gave the President Line item veto and the Supreme threw it out!
” If the Democrats take over Trump will be impeached”
No he won’t.
Trump is no more impeachable than Obama was.
His die-hard, no-matter-what support is at least 35% of all voters.
He’s untouchable.
So now the repubs want to shut down the country by cancelling parts of that bill. Amazing what those idiots get paid to do, I only wish they KNEW what they were doing.
Yeah.
House RINOs can appeal to conservative by voting for it. and Senate RINOs can appeal to “moderate” by voting against it.
The show that never ends.
(Hey! I could be wrong LOL!)
>>Now they intend to convince you they are going to fix it, if you vote for them just one more time.<<
Well, that’s nonsense, of course. They have 45 days to “fix it” once Trump orders any particular rescission (a devil of a word to spell, by the way...maybe that’s why it’s so rarely used?). By election day, we’ll know whether Trump issued any requests to rescind spending, and we’ll certainly know who supported him and who didn’t. That could clarify matters considerably when it comes to voting in or voting out certain people.
Trump should start with some obvious boondoggles (You know they’re in there), stuff that even some Democrats can’t really support when their voters are watching, and then move down the line item by item, ending with that half billion dollars earmarked for Planned Parenthood. Was it really a half billion? See, once you focus on a particular number, it starts to sound even more outrageous.
And take them one at a time, or a few at a time, not as a total package. Make our Congressman vote aye or nay on some real doozies. It should make a hell of a show.
Four people run this country. McConnell, Ryan, Schumer and Pelosi.
“It should make a hell of a show.”
If it was going to happen, it would have happened a month ago.
>>So now the repubs want to shut down the country by cancelling parts of that bill.<<
And rescinding a few billion dollars of Dem-sponsored spending shuts down the country exactly how?
I can’t believe the negativity in here. President Trump is actually considering taking an action that should drive the Dems nuts and everybody’s bitching?
“Four people run this country. McConnell, Ryan, Schumer and Pelosi.”
That is what the Founders intended.
