At about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, 22 March, 2018, in St. Paul, Minnesota, a 39-year-old man arranged to meet a man to purchase an iPhone X. The sale turned out to be a pretext for an armed robbery. One report says the seller stuck a gun in the side of the would-be buyer, then robbed him as he was counting out $500 for the purchase.
The meeting was arranged on Facebook. From cbslocal.com:
Police say a suspect is in custody after a permit-to-carry holder in St. Paul shot him during an armed robbery.
According to St. Paul Police, it happened at around 5:30 p.m. Thursday on the 1100 block of Rice Street. Kendrick Johnterious Maddox, 18, had arranged to sell an iPhone X via Facebook and was meeting with the buyer. When the man was counting out the cash, police say Maddox pulled out a gun and took the money.
The would-be buyer had a carry permit and a .357 revolver. He drew his revolver and fired at the armed robbery suspect. Accounts do not say how many times he fired. One online commenter claimed the victim fired three times, citing listening to news stories. The victim fired at least once and hit the suspect in the foot. The suspect fled. A man matching the description turned up at a local hospital for a gunshot wound. From twincities.com:
The buyer began counting out $500, when the seller pulled a firearm and robbed him. The buyer pulled his own .357 revolver and shot the man, who ran away.

“Kendrick Johnterious Maddox”
Urban Amish-sounding name.
No need for pictures.
That’s why they say you should meet in the parking lot of the police station.
And nothing good happens on Rice street. Not a good place.
At least he survived, not many people can testify as to what it feels like to take a round from a .357 Magnum! ;)
Anytime you are making a sale to a man with a name like Johnterious you best be armed. White privilege dictates the terms when dealing with someone with an Africanized name.
I can, and it’s not ;)
Ohhhhh...Dat be SOOOOOO RACIST!
“At least he survived, not many people can testify as to what it feels like to take a round from a .357 Magnum! ;)”
Untreated, assuming a 125gr hollow point, he would have eventually bed out...even shot in the foot.
Anywhere else...more solid parts of the body...he would have bled out before he got to a hospital.
Never underestimate the power of a .357. It’s the historically best man killer in the history of FBI record keeping.
99% one shot stops. 80+% fatalities. 60 years of data.
I doubt it.
Anyone buying an iPhone X for $500 in a parking lot also has to suspect it will be stolen goods.
At that distance, most modern pistol rounds will penetrate the human body. Whether its a .357 magnum or .356 (9mm), makes no difference.
“The man” didnt fled very far. Its hard to fled with a magnum hole in yer gut.
Which is why the ‘would-be buyer’ should get to the range more often.
Although, I can’t say I wouldn’t be shaking if some ‘Johnterious’ pulled a gun on me. But then again, I wouldn’t be buying an obviously-stolen iPhone.
Too bad there isn’t a happy ending here.
I hand load my carry 125 grainers at about 1200fps. More your my comfort than yours.
“And nothing good happens on Rice street.”.......
Never did! I grew up on the NE side near Keller Golf Course/Phalen Lake (Gladstone), that was 60 years ago and nothing has changed around Rice Street area. Sadly, the East side of St. Paul (Maryland/White Bear Ave) has gone WAY down as well. Glad I moved away a long time ago.
.357 makes a BIG HOLE in one’s foot. Bet that would be robber will be limping for a while, if he doesn’t lose his foot.
Yep. There were good solid working class jobs in St. Paul that made for a middle class and launched many accomplished people. All that is gone along with those manufacturing, distribution and brewery jobs. The upwardly mobile replaced by Third Worlders milking fewer and fewer taxpayers.

Ive done some work with my chronograph with my 2 Ruger SP101. Ive found magnum loads in that barrel length waste a whole lot of powder. My preferred load for that pistol is a 110 grain +P.
Anything bigger turns that little pistol into a flamethrower.

Aaaaand, according to one former MN government employee, it’s like “the streets in St. Paul were laid out by a drunken Irishman.”
