I hope that this lawsuit succeeds. Pennsylvania's greedsters need to stop diverting turnpike tolls.

Yep, it’s a scam, and I have a Penn. EZ pass.

Wanna know why?
Wanna know why there is a democrat governor in Harrisburg who with a corrupt supreme court are about to gerrymand republicans into oblivion?
Governor Tom Corbett (R) hung PA with a 32 cent tax increase on gas - highest in the nation.
And then made increases to the PA Tolls AUTOMATIC.
And republicans wonder why they can’t win.

EZ-Pass makes it much easier to charge onerous tolls. Most people just breeze through, never knowing how much they are being charged. When the monthly bill comes, most just pay it without even scrutinizing the individual charges.
My monthly bill has crept up into the $60 range. The only reason I even look at it is because my company reimburses me for business driving so I have to separate the business tolls from the personal tolls.
Just another added expense for living in the Northeast. Now even Connecticut looks to get in on the toll action.

The Toll

I moved from Philadelphia in 1993. My ancestors arrived in the late 1690's. We had one home in Philly, one on the Jersey shore, and one cottage I'm the Poconos.
We were the first to go, but within ten years not one family member still lived in Philadelphia, and all but one moved out of the state completely.

Sounds a lot like how the Illinois Tollway is run.
I checked the PA Turnpike toll calculator and if a car with EZ Pass enters the turnpike from Ohio, and gets off at New Castle, that’s 9.27 miles and the toll is $5.18. I know it is calculated differently in Illinois, but the toll plazas are about 16 miles apart and the usual I-Pass charge is 75 cents.
I guess I can’t really complain that much about the Illinois Tollway. Well, I probably will still complain, but this gives me a little different perspective. Now, the Chicago Skyway at $5.20 a pop is a different story.

Most people don’t know that truckers pay up to $200 just to get on and off Long Island, NY.

we flew into Philly and rented a car to drive back to Lancaster...we got on the toll road...little did we know that unless we had an EZpass, we couldn't just get off the toll road to get something to eat...there's special exits for the EZpass people...but unknowingly we got off, looking for good food, to end up at a crummy McDonalds...when we got back on the toll road, we were warned that we would be fined....
sure enough we got a big bill in the mail...luckily we were able to get out of most of it....
bastards...

Interesting article. I look at this a bit differently. PA serves a lot of travelers -- especially truckers -- who go through the state between external points. I say it's in their best interests to charge whatever they can to these travelers on the PA Turnpike.
The flip side of this is that travelers have options, too ... and I'm sure the PA Turnpike has reached the point where the tolls are chasing motorists away. The Turnpike may get less total revenue today than they did a couple of years ago. I used to take the Turnpike regularly, but once the toll reached a certain level I decided that it wasn't worthwhile for me to pay the toll to save my time anymore ... so now I use a slower parallel route with no toll instead.
