The Brooklyn Museum in New York City has sparked outrage among members of the black community after it selected a white woman to curate its African art exhibit. The museum announced Monday that it tapped Kristen Windmuller-Luna, 31, to be in charge of the museums African art collection.
Luna earned a Ph.D. from Princeton University in African art history, worked for the Metropolitan Museum of Art as an educator responsible for adult and college gallery tours of the museums African galleries, and lectures at Columbia University.
But despite the womans impressive credentials, social media users have been criticizing the museum for hiring her because she is not a person of color.

Seriously, @brooklynmuseum? There goes the neighborhood for good, Philadelphia journalist Ernest Owens wrote on Twitter.
People from the African Diaspora are frustrated w/white people being gatekeepers of our narrative, Kimberly Seldon tweeted.
The Brooklyn Museum defended its choice to hire Luna because of her track record as an innovator in the field and said that it was committed to equity.
Kristen is the perfect choice to build upon the Brooklyn Museums track record as an innovator in the collection and exhibition of the arts of Africa, Jennifer Chi, the museums chief curator, said in a statement to the New York Post.
After receiving lots of backlash over its hiring decision, the museum posted an updated statement stating that it was monitoring the debate over the recent hires and it is committed to equity in the workplace.
Were listening and we hear you. As we think about ways to engage in this conversation with the care it deserves, we want to assure you that you can count on us, as ever, to continue working deeply on equity within our institution and beyond, the museum tweeted.

That’s racist!
So they think that hiring a black who is totally unqualified for the job is better?
But this woman is a supreme caricature of an urban, elitist, post-modern, PC leftist. Can’t the SJW’s just give her a pass?
This is going too far. Racism run amok.
Racist....
A PhD in African Art? Seriously?
I sure hope the “outraged” are placed on the “red flag” list and not allowed to purchase firearms. Their relatives and neighbors need to turn them in to the State police force when they see them being “outraged” on the news.
I wonder how many other applicants there were for this “job”.
affirmative action boomeranging back on them...
They want to reinstate segregation:
the enforced separation of different racial groups in a country, community, or establishment. “an official policy of racial segregation”
This art has no doubt been culturally appropriated from the beautiful indigenous peoples who created it. White colonialists unfairly removed it from the continent where it belongs. This woman should be fired immediately. The art should be sent back to Africa to be enjoyed by those who are more deserving than us filthy Americans. Only then can the people of NYC assuage their collective guilt.
exactly! and the curator should pack it up and help ship it back there...that’s where this line of thinking logically ends
Anyone still doubt that the goal is to eliminate white people?
They’ll provide as much evidence as any reasonable person could possibly demand.
OMG! You mean they did something unacceptable, like actually hiring the most qualified applicant instead of giving the top job to some incompetent and making some assistant do the actual job for less pay and position?
Roseanne Barr has ‘progressive writers’ pretending to ‘do’ white working class citizens...
The only thing that would be WORSE is if she were a white MALE.
When are the libs going to realize that they’ve taken this identity thing too far?!?!
BTW, I like that African piece that was posted. It has a nice, almost comical, force and presence. It’s works like these that inspired Modernism in the west with new visions that go beyond redundant realism.
