It sounds like they were running some sort of foster program scam. The kids were not eating and one of them slugged the kid with her fist.

That's exactly what my wife thinks was going on. Some people make a bunch of money with the scam of taking in homeless children for pay, then mistreating them once the county child welfare agent leaves.

You have to wonder if either of the two women had a paying job at any time during their "marriage". An investigation, which I believe is justified under these circumstances, may well uncover illegal activity that had been overlooked previously.

Of course, certain parties may suppress any incriminating findings to avoid charges of sexism, racism or homophobia by the media. Its not unusual.
