Democratic Rep. Elizabeth Esty, who has apologized after she kept on a top aide for several months despite having learned of abuse allegations against him, said Friday that she has no plans to resign.

"For those who have asked, I want to be clear that I am not resigning," the Connecticut lawmaker said in a statement to CNN. "I have important work to do in Congress including building on the lessons of this horrible series of events."

Esty entered into a nondisclosure agreement with her former chief of staff Tony Baker and wrote a reference letter for him even after learning of allegations that he had threatened and physically assaulted another aide of hers with whom he was once in a relationship, The Washington Post reported.

Now if she was a Republican that would be different.

“My agenda going forward will include relentlessly pursuing specific actions to foster a better working environment on Capitol Hill, building on the work that has already been done to ensure safe environments for staff, looking to the best practices that have been developed in the private sector, and taking the next steps to further strengthen workplace protections and provide employees with a safe platform to raise concerns,” Esty said in the statement.

Innocent until proven guilty. She is to be commended.

She lives in my town, along with Senator Milquetoast Murphy. Today the Hartford Courant called for her to resign. The community Facebook forum is mostly calling for her resignation. Popcorn time.

“”I have important work to do in Congress including building on the lessons of this horrible series of events.””

Don’t they ever hear themselves? Don’t they ever think, “No, that sounds too cheezy - I can’t say that”. Nope. They never do... It’s always some flowery language/words that normal humans never speak but that doesn’t stop them. Just bowl them over with BS....

Back in the Dark Ages, you were innocent until proven guilty. Etsy would make a great Republican. Maybe she should switch parties? Democrats have a proven tract record of condemning forcing other to resign before guilt has been proven.

Doesn’t sound like she’s denying this happened.

Very Clintonesque. She only needed to add “now I have to go back to work for the American people”.

She may have felt the need to virtue signal, just in case the court finds the guy guilty. Laura Ingraham felt she had to apologize to Camera Hogg just in case her sponsors took offense.

You’re right - and add - “to make sure it never happens again.”

Didn’t her district (where I now live - but didn’t at the time) vote for Trump?

Anyway, she is a gun grabber who participated (and maybe even was one of the leaders) in the Democrat/Commie sit-in in the House of Representatives a couple years ago.

I certainly hope that she is vulnerable...

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty, an outspoken advocate for the #MeToo movement, has found herself in the awkward position of apologizing for not protecting female staffers in her Washington office who say they experienced violence, death threats and sexual harassment by her former chief of staff.

Pop, Pop

I would like to believe someone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. But if that person were working for me and I had credible evidence that the accusation were true, that person would be out the door.

Another point: I no longer trust our judicial system. I used to, but it has proven to me far too many times that it is more about politics than justice.

Since the courts are so unreliable, if I were the employer I would make a decision based on the best evidence available to me.

I don’t even know what constitutes credible evidence. Unless you’re an eyewitness, or acquainted with an eyewitness, it’s usually he said, she said. People make up stories to get revenge for perceived slights. Muslims assume that women reflexively lie. We assume women are truth-tellers. The reality is somewhere in the middle.

Of course she’s not resigning.
