President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce the start of construction his proposed wall on the U.S. southern border but that's not exactly what happened.
“Great briefing this afternoon on the start of our Southern Border WALL!” Trump tweeted, sharing pictures of work being done in Calexico, California.

[...] The project to replace dilapidated fencing in Calexico began in 2009, the LA Times reported. [...]
A press release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection explains that construction on the fence replacement in Calexico began on February 21:
The area of the border wall replacement will be an approximately 2.25-mile section replaced with 30-foot high bollard style wall. The project covers an area from approximately the Calexico West Port of Entry extending westward beyond the Gran Plaza Outlets. The project also includes around 2.25 miles of all-weather roads.
CBP explains that the previous fencing in that spot “was built in the 1990s out of recycled scraps of metal and old landing mat,” and needed to be updated after repeated breaches led to frequent and expensive repairs. [...]
Furthermore, the segment pictured in Trump's tweet isn't really much of a wall at all, but a bollard fence similar to what already exists along parts of the border. During the presidential campaign, Trump lashed out at primary opponent Jeb Bush for suggesting that Trump would build a fence instead of a wall.
Jeb Bush just talked about my border proposal to build a “fence.” It's not a fence, Jeb, it's a WALL, and there's a BIG difference!

Don’t work very fast, do they???
What BS!!!!!
Who is more truthful:
President Trump or Independent Journal Review
Trump or Review
Trump!!!
Oh my.
Just look at all of those poor women and children
It’s the approved fence with reductions in holding areas and reductions in planned increases of border agents. We were had.
Look at how many of these “gimi dats” have smart phones. Who pays these bills? Where does the bill go?
who do they call ?
WTF over
I dunno.
Are there other areas of construction also occurring?
Because having only one ongoing construction site doesn’t make much sense, and I’ve only seen pictures of one.
Gee, duh! Doesnt take a rocket scientist to read that congress funds a few miles of fence and NOT a wall. Contracts have not been issued to even start construction of a wall. Besides, I sure havent seen mention of a design being picked. Procurement takes a while. So what is going on is fence repair and replacement. Only an idiot would be satisfied that a wall was being built. Reality sucks.
Tweeting FAKE red-meat.
Don’t be used by the Trump haters.
Everything Trump does is done big with positive and the best interpretation. It’s how he leads and gets things done.
Let Trump lead!
Well it sounds better than repair that fence! We arent supposed to take Trumo literally, right?
Procurement has been going on for nearly a year. Prototypes have been built. The fence repair and replacement now occurring looks very like one of the prototypes.
PAY ATTENTION, PEOPLE!
I am paying attention.
How many concurrent construction sites are there?
Because surely only one makes zero sense.
Well, whatever that is, it definitely is not a fence.
“The project to replace dilapidated fencing in Calexico began in 2009”
Translation: The project, which was put on hold as soon as Obama took office in 2009, was finally funded by Trump.
You better read his twitter. Because he shows a fence and calls it a wall..
That is a fence and that is the picture he showed on his twitter account..
Now that is the size of “fence” I would have liked when living next to bad neighbors with big unleashed dogs pooping all over.
