According to Matthew McConaughey, assault weapons are not alright, alright, alright. But banning them is.
The 48-year-old actor spoke at the Austin, Texas March for Our Lives, stating that he was there because hes an American citizen, a proud Texan, a March for Our Lives believer, and, most importantly, because Im a father and Im a husband. Though he claimed that he wasnt advocating for gun control, he asked that Second-Amendment supporters take one for the team.
McConaughey, a famous face at the gun-control rally, announced that he didnt attend for the sake of subverting the Second Amendment, but that he wanted America to acknowledge that it is in the middle of an epidemic.
Now like many of you in the South, and many of us here in Austin, Texas, and all around our great state, we grew up hunting, he said. But I want to be clear that todays march is not about taking away the rights of law-abiding American citizens to buy own and bear arms.
To the surprise of no one (especially conservative gun owners), McConaughey turned around, adding that, At the same time, lets admit that we have an epidemic in our country right now that we need to fix.

Now Lincoln is going to suffer.
Another Hollywood actor who's movies I will no longer pay to see.
...he asked that Second-Amendment supporters take one for the team...
The team being Democrats, Socialists, Communists, Anarchists, and others like them.
No thanks.
Indeed he does.
First it’s the AR-15s. Then they’ll want to take semi-automatic weapons like your pistols. And then they’ll want to take guns with more than one shot. It’s a slippery slope.
Any liberal ( or anybody else, for that matter) who takes the position, “Silly conservatives....nobody’s going to take your guns away” is either ignorant of the true progressive agenda or a goddamned liar. Or both.
What a faggot.
The actor is wrong, it is about repeal of the 2nd Amendment. So, no one is taking one for any team.
If you are talking about deaths, gun deaths are dwarfed by opioids. Yet we don’t have marches on opioids.
JP Stevens, the fool, said the 2nd Amendment is no longer relevant? I think he means the 3rd Amendment which is the quartering of soldiers in your home. I would agree with the third being obsolete, but I still want the protection if they go back to quartering soldiers.
Half the country will go to war over the 2nd Amendment, I think it is still very relevant.
After what has been witnessed in a human lifetime still alive on Earth, laws prohibiting gun ownership by Jews in Nazi Germany, their ultimate round-up and slaughter. The fight in the Warsaw Ghetto, the creation of Israel, now their own gun culture. The gun is the ultimate voting lever, never forget it, it keeps you free.
The Tibetan farmers complaining to the Dalai Lama about the Communist Chinese taking their weapons away and then being brutalized by the very same oppressors. First take away their ability to fight back, then subjugate them.
Now- Iran promises to kill every Jew on Earth, and destroy America. They are terrorists, and they send guns and jihadists into the West to kill people. The FBI will not protect you, they can’t. Even cowardly police stand outside school buildings
People have a right to defend themselves, from a cartoonist in France, to one in Garland, TX. We have a right to bear arms and defend our lives, our families and our property.
Matt, the issue is not guns. The issue IS moral values. You and your friends really need to start talking about what is right and wrong and you need to start NOW. Oh, but wait, you don’t want ANYONE telling you what’s right and wrong, do you? Man, this is headed in a bad direction real fast.
I liked him better when he’s sat around naked playing the bongo drums!
I have a long-time accquantance on FB who repeatedly claims no one wants to take our guns away, even as I post links to actions such as the Oregon Initiative that seek to do exactly that. I’ve given up even trying to state the obvious to those who will not listen. Instead, I offer no quarter and no compromise on this subject. If they can’t even tell the truth about what is on the table, we can’t trust them to act in good faith at any level.
He is the epidemic.
