In a bizarre turn of events, the Blackhawks had to play emergency goaltender Scott Foster Thursday night against the Jets, and Foster saved all seven shots he faced in a 6-2 win.
Not bad for a 36-year-old guy who had not played competitive hockey since his four-year career at Western Michigan University ended in 2006.
Of course, no one expected Foster would even sniff the ice, let alone turn away all the shots he faced. But starting goalie Anton Forsberg suffered an injury in pre-game warmups. Backup Collin Delia, who had just been recalled from the minor leagues, made his NHL debut Thursday and played well in relief of Forsberg, stopping 25 of 27 shots. But he left early in the third period with an apparent lower-body injury.
Enter Foster, whose only hockey stats (.875 save percentage, 3.44 GAA) came at Western Michigan those many years ago. He's at every Blackhawks game as the emergency backup, bringing his equipment along. He eats dinner in the press box as the team's guest, waiting for the call that will never come.

Then how did they get '2'?...................
The other goalie.

If he’s an emergency back-up who they pay to be at the rink nightly, he’s definitely taking shots from the players during practice on a regular basis.
I bet he also plays in a high level amateur hockey league. I know a lot of ex-college hockey guys who do. Certainly not the NHL, but its not like he hasn’t played in 12 years
Well, he’s an accountant.
He’s used to hiding numbers..................
“Backup Collin Delia......stopping 25 of 27 shots”
The two he didn’t stop were the goals...
Every mediocre athlete’s dream come true.
He had a great quote at the end of the article: I think Im just hitting my prime, Foster told the Chicago Sun-Times. The initial shock happened when I had to dress. And then I think you just kind of black out after that.”
Yeah, really good backup!.............
He only played the last 14 minutes. The other team already had 2 goals by then.
What a cool story. That guy is probably on top of the world today.
Foster also plays goalie in an amateur hockey league so he not rusty, but no where near the level of the NHL.
Figures, I wonder why the so called sports reporter stated?

Cool story, indeed. Love the quote about blacking out. For the rest of his life, he is an NHL goalie who got the W in his first game. Ain’t nobody taking that away from hm.
That’s an awesome story.
He’s certainly better than Kari Let-One-In.
Keeping up the tried and true freeper tradition of not reading any more than the headline.
Sorry Ant, he didn’t get credited with the W.
