Freedom Caucus Chair Mark Meadows Blasts Sessions’ Decision to Refuse a Second Special Counsel

On Thursday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced he will not be appointing a second special counsel to investigate crimes committed by Obama’s FBI and DOJ.

Rather, AG Sessions revealed the identity of a ‘top federal prosecutor’ who will be investigating the abuses.

CNN first reported Thursday that John Huber, the federal prosecutor in Utah, has been investigating Republicans’ allegations that the FBI abused a surveillance program against a former Trump campaign adviser.

Huber has also been looking at whether the FBI should have more thoroughly probed Hillary Clinton‘s ties to Uranium One, a Russian nuclear energy agency.

U.S. Attorney John Huber was first appointed to his position by Barack Obama.

Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-NC) expressed his disappointment in Sessions’ decision to forgo a second special counsel.

Meadows tweeted: So the Obama DOJ can open a legally questionable investigation into the Trump campaign—allegedly based on a campaign volunteer mouthing off at a London bar—but this DOJ can’t appoint a second special counsel after all the troubling documents we’ve seen?

Demoncat crimes are not crimes
Don’t we know that drill by now ?
Two words. Vince Foster
Two more Ron Brown
It all starts there
The Clintons have had murdered people in plain sight
No consequences
It has all gone from there
Trump has a good shot in undoing SOME of it
But WE will have to be dogged in our persuits

If this Huber Obama appointee works for Rosenweasel,
who is going to investigate Rosenweasel?
The whitewash is coming.

Allowing a DoJ already hollowed out with corruption, to investigate itself. Way to go, Jeff.

Very good interview on Lou Dobbs show hosted by Stu Varney and it was with jonathan turley he explained that Huber has the same power to indict an so on that a special counsel would and keep in mind Huber has been at this for months so if you want something to happen soon its the best bet because Horowitz evidence is now complied an its the begging of either grand juries or whichever course they take
Keep in Mind Andrew McCabe has a Go Fund me defense fund set up so the proverbial fecal material is about to hit the fan!

Does Rep. Meadows even know what purpose a special counsel serves?

Based on his comments here, I suspect not.

Legally, there is almost no distinction anymore between a "special counsel" and an ordinary Federal prosecutor.

A lot of people complaining that a special counsel is needed here seem to think the old independent counsel statute is still in force. It's not.

This article says he was reappointed by President Trump, and that he supported some immigrant-related laws advocated by Pres. Trump:

Meadows and Jordan's whinge epxressed on Ingraham this evening was basically that DOJ has been stonewalling.

For example, the email that implicated Obama's cheif of staff had been redacted by the DOJ, to remove that implication.

The point you make is very well taken though. The added "whatever" of a SC isn't much.

Sessions and the FBI are trying to run out the limitations clock, that’s obstruction of justice and yet there is no one other than Trump that can change it. Except of course if the US military or the citizens take action to see that justice is done. And neither of those are likely. No question about it, Congress needs to demand that Trump get rid of Sessions.

For once, I disagree with Meadows. Sessions has been very busy behind the scenes, and is beginning to tip his hand. We are going to have a very eventful Spring.

That is ludicrous. Do you even know what federal statutes of limitations are? Hint: they are quite long, and there is no statue of limitations for capital crimes.

Are you saying that even if the Dems retake the House and slow walk the multiple investigations needed to restore confidence in the DOJ/FBI until they can control the outcomes of said investigations that investigations begun now will proceed unabated? The DOJ/FBI is compromised enough to preclude their ability to thoroughly investigate themselves and their politically appointed superiors and restore legitimacy in the minds of many.

A special counsel would still answer to the DOJ, so I’m not sure why these guys think it would be any different if a second special counsel is named.
