The 2016 election is over and Donald Trump is president, so why is Hillary Clinton still making public appearances and talking to crowds?
Or, as Ruth Mandel director of Rutgers Eagleton Institute of Politics, put it to Clinton Thursday at Rutgers in Piscataway, why still talk when "People say get off the stage and shut up"?
The former secretary of state's response was direct:
"They never said that to any man who was not elected."
Clinton, who lost her White House against Trump, then rattled off a list of recent presidential hopefuls whose campaigns also failed to get them to the White House, and didn't disappear afterward: Al Gore, John Kerry, John McCain and Mitt Romney.

Every time she opens her mouth for a microphone, it reminds millions upon millions of voters why they voted against her in 2016. I heard a most apt descriptor of her: “America’s ex-wife”, which really nails it.
She literally cannot see how much of America despises her. She almost makes Bill a sympathetic character.
You want to know why the recent special elections are so tight in districts that Trump carried by wide margins? One word: Hillary. She was the drag on the ticket in 2016, and she will be again in 2018 if she keeps acting like she’s running a government in exile.
So SPEAK HILLARY, SPEAK!
It's far worse when the whining sore loser won't quietly disappear. Maybe Al Gore was the best prior example of a loser who was determined to harangue us forever. It got so bad with him, somebody made this fine bumper sticker:
We need the same thing for this disgusting wench.
It's interesting that only Democrats insist on hogging the stage after they lose elections or are out of office.
Because she knows that if she retreats from the public she will lose any political power that she has. That power is all that is keeping her out of jail.
Hillary Clinton insists on remaining the public face of the Democratic Party.
She relishes her martyr role despite the fact her party wants to move on.
And has established herself as a classier version of Stormy Daniels. As the old joke has it, what’s the difference between a hooker and a politician?
Their client.
But Soetoro was a two-time winner. It’s especially bad with a two-time loser. Man or woman. Who wants to hear a harpy loser?
In a sane world she would be front and center of a firing squad.
I want more cow bell... I mean more Hillary-—
Harold Stassen has the all time record as a loser.
Who’s the Bitter Clinger now?
Nooooo! Let her keep talking!
The longer Hillary is considered the Faceand voice of the democrat party, the better.
Next up, a joint appearance with Stormy at Vassar.
...”People say get off the stage and shut up”?
The former secretary of state’s response was direct:
“They never said that to any man who was not elected...
Romney, Kasich, and Jebbie are just a few it’s been said to.
Hellary lies again.
Al Gore sort of did disappear after Bush was inaugurated -- and for some time.
People give him a hard time because he went on fighting after the November election when the outcome was still unclear, but I don't remember him hanging around after the Supreme Court decision.
True, Gore did do his climate change thing later, but he wasn't rehashing the election results every week like Hillary Clinton.
I also don't recall Bush Sr. or Dukakis lingering and malingering on the public stage after their defeats.
Kerry and McCain remained senators, so they didn't go into hiding, but they didn't endlessly discuss their defeats.
It wasn't certain that he was a loser when that stuff came out.
He was still hoping a recount would give him the few votes that would have given him Florida.
Good point. Of course, Al went on to discover new ways to harangue forever and make a billion dollars doing it, too.
Romney, too. He’s in the news now, and made the papers in 2016, but he didn’t hang around after the election. Too busy living his life and doing whatever he does in his many houses.
“They never said that to any man who was not elected.”
She has no pride in herself any more. She threw it away the night she lost the election and couldn’t concede to Trump until she pulled herself together and sobered up.
(What I wouldn’t give to have been in the room that night
to see her meltdown!)
Well the men weren't psycho stalkers as you obviously are, Hillary. Women like you give other women bad reputation. Learn to accept rejection without inflicting yourself upon us because you think you know better.
Good! The last thing I want her to do is shut up. She’s done what the Republicans could never do, get a sizable fraction of the Democrat party to criticize Hillary.
