CEO criticizes monetization of customers personal information
Cook says the time for self-regulation is past
Apples chief executive, Tim Cook, issued a harsh rebuke of Mark Zuckerberg and Facebooks business model on Wednesday, saying that detailed profiles of individuals compiled by internet platforms should not exist. Are you ready? This is all the data Facebook and Google have on you Dylan Curran Read more
We could make a ton of money if we monetized our customers, if our customers were our product, Cook said in an interview with Recode and MSNBC that will air on 6 April. Weve elected not to do that Were not going to traffic in your personal life. Privacy to us is a human right, a civil liberty.
Cook also said that it is past time to regulate Facebook. I think the best regulation is no regulation, is self-regulation, he said. However, I think were beyond that here.
The comment echoed remarks Cook made in Beijing last week, when he said: I think that this certain situation is so dire and has become so large that probably some well-crafted regulation is necessary.
Facebook has received a deluge of criticism in the wake of the Observers reporting that the personal information of 50 million American users was used by the electioneering firm Cambridge Analytica.
But Cook has been sounding the alarm on mass data collection by Facebook and Google for years. The executive has long pointed to the distinction between Apples business model selling products to customers for a profit and that of internet platforms that are gobbling up everything they can learn about you and trying to monetize it, as he said in 2015.

Word is he will be exposed soon too.
In the meanwhile, Tim Cook moves Apple Cloud to Communist China.
Oh but don't worry Communist China, the biggest hackers on the planet, will not get your data..... (sarcasm off)
Pot calling the Kettle black scenario.
A pox on both their houses.
Maybe so, but anyone who takes the punkfaced t-shirted smarmy Zuck down an few notches gets my vote. I have never been able to look at that guys mug without wishing for the feel of a Louisville slugger in my hands.
Publishers sell advertising. Manufacturers sell stuff.
I am not aware of Cook, but; Facebook has used our data to compete/ replace Equifax for homeowners/auto insurance underwriting. I recall it some 6-7 years ago and DUMPED THEM.
Was there ever a rich, white liberal who is NOT a hypocrite? These pukes make billions and they claim to espouse socialism/lean left yet pay no taxes.
I think Zuck the Cuck will be in jail within 24 months
[A pox on both their houses.]
Agreed.
Now I will say:
Die, Facebook. Die.
No honor among thieves, I guess.
PDJT is killing FANGS...one would have to be a fool to hold any ETFs or mutuals with these stocks...much less individual stocks...
From your keyboard....
If you make a profit on the gossip habits and profiling of the same by selling content, that is hardly a business. It is just being a rude opportunist.
I don't know which outweighs which, but some of it has helped to catch dangerous criminals and evidence to convict them.
And people say they aren't doing anything wrong so they aren't worried. Maybe that is the most dangerous supposition of all. . . .
I seriously doubt Apple is shutting down in China to protect the rights of Chinese or even refusing to allow the Chinese government access to whatever information they say is critical to the citizenship points system.

Clash of the tech titans. Can't wait for the movie to come out.
Yep. Look at that black kettle!
FACEBOOK is a scam
Never would have thought that the time would arrive when Bill Gates would come out smelling like a rose.
And you would be wrong. Apple has their iCloud plant in North Carolina in a 180 acre park. That's not going anywhere, staying in the USA.
In addition, Apple’s 180-acre iCloud plant in North Carolina is powered by 200 acres of solar panels. Apple has a major commitment to staying in North Carolina, including other non-cloud tech plants.
