The Welcome Project is launching the Somerville Response Network, a text message service providing advanced and immediate notice of federal ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) raids in Somerville.
The Rapid Response Network is more than just an action plan, says Development Coordinator for the Welcome Project Kenia Alfaro. There is a lot of fear in our immigrant communities. Though we cant puta halt to the actions of the federal government, we can be prepared to help families in our city affected by ICE arrests or deportation move forward in the face of uncertainty.
The system is simple: if you observe a raid, text 617-863-7783 or 857-928-1987 and be as specific as possible, including your location. A team of volunteers will verify the information anonymously and, if confirmed, will send a message to the entire network. Rapid Response allows advocates who are not at risk of deportation to mobilize in support, either by going to the scene directly or coordinating resources in the aftermath of a raid.
The goal of the Rapid Response plan is to try and keep families together, says Executive Director of the Welcome Project Ben Echevarria. We will alert the community to ICE activity in our community. Some may decide to stay away from the area, while others will go to the scene to protest and help those impacted by the raid.
In his 2018 inaugural address, Mayor Joe Curtatone emphasized Somervilles commitment as a sanctuary city.
Many immigrant families have been plunged into fear and chaos and we have rallied to support them, he said. I want to say to anyone who finds themselves or a loved one or someone they know fighting against the cold-hearted and craven immigration policies of our current President contact us. You are not alone.

This is in Somerville Massachusetts
Home town of the [unfortunate] “Black Dahlia”.
Flood the center with calls, keep them agitated.
As a first amendment exercise, can we all call POLITELY and ask what services they provide for US citizens to protect us from ICE? Can they please pass along the location of an illegal alien to ICE so they can be picked up and deported? POLITELY OF COURSE. Make their phone POLITELY ring constantly.
A conservative could have fun with that one. Keep calling in raids until they stop taking it seriously.
Anyone who knows where an illegal lives call Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Recommend Google-mapping the locations in order to give a description of the facilities being "raided."
617-863-7783 or 857-928-1987
I just tried both. The 617 goes to Google voicemail. My message "Can we give you the location of an illegal alien? Will you contact ICE so they can be picked up and deported?
At the 857 number, a guy answered, I asked the same, and his first response was "Do you know your number is public?". I said "Yes, and I asked a polite question." He replied, "What is your question?" I repeated, he replied, "That is not what we do."
We should repeat this a 1,000 times. All polite, all an exercise of our first amendment. Heck, it is a valid question anyway, will they report illegal activity?
Yes, good idea. Flood them with many, many fake calls/texts.
Tell any worried "immigrant" families that if they aren't laying down with illegal aliens, they have nothing to worry about.
Can you set up a phony text service to send messages to the hot line?
ID the local Mexican restaurants...start with those.
ICE should do a couple of things to combat what is in part a war of ideals.
Establish and advertise a toll free Hotline in sanctuary states and cities for concerned citizens to call with information on illegal criminals that local and state governments are aiding and abetting.
Get the word out to concerned citizens in sanctuary states and cities pointing out that their local governments are giving illegal aliens a higher level of protection and legal assistance than they give to citizens and legal residents.
Everytime an illegal commits a horrendous crime against a citizen make certain the citizens in the area are informed.
Billboards would do a good job on keeping people informed and countering the false narratives being put out by pro-illegal groups and governments.
No, any call should be polite, ask a legit question. Give them nothing actionable. Think about it, a thousand people calling to ask immigration-related questions... What can they do? Legit, polite questions from inquiring minds.
You are right.
I stated before if Trump actually made a 1-800 HOTLINE with MONEY in exchange for info for every illegal nabbed, I GUARANTEE a lot of Americans will get on board...even the hispanics.
Because there is NO MONEY involved. Look at CRIMESTOPPERS: they help because there is a CASH REWARD at the end. If Trump does this, I know illegals will be caught left and right.
Why would “immigrants” fear?
That’s totally legal guys! You’re good.
We should punk that hotline with fake ICE sightings.
