But some trail neighbors in Glencoe cited concerns over diminished property values, saying that if the invasive plants were removed, it would cause more noise since the plants might buffer street sounds, additional light coming into homes from car traffic on Green Bay Road and a decrease in security for children who will be crossing nearby tracks."

I hate buckthorn.

I take concentrated (41%) glyphosate (Roundup, but I usually buy Home Depot’s generic version) and add some food coloring to the bottle.

When I find a buckthorn bush I cannot rip out of the ground, roots and all, I chop it low to the ground and paint the stump with the concentrated glyphosate using a foam brush. The food coloring helps me see which stumps I’ve painted, and which I’ve missed. That helps when you chop down a whole bush and you have multiple stumps. If you miss a stump, it will grow right back.

I love forsythia bushes. We do not have them in Florida but I have been in New York when they were in full bloom and they are stunning. What a better world it would be if they could swap out those plants. At least, it would be better looking.
