I hate buckthorn.
I take concentrated (41%) glyphosate (Roundup, but I usually buy Home Depot’s generic version) and add some food coloring to the bottle.
When I find a buckthorn bush I cannot rip out of the ground, roots and all, I chop it low to the ground and paint the stump with the concentrated glyphosate using a foam brush. The food coloring helps me see which stumps I’ve painted, and which I’ve missed. That helps when you chop down a whole bush and you have multiple stumps. If you miss a stump, it will grow right back.
I love forsythia bushes. We do not have them in Florida but I have been in New York when they were in full bloom and they are stunning. What a better world it would be if they could swap out those plants. At least, it would be better looking.
