Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Tuesday slammed retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens for calling for a repeal of the Second Amendment.
In an op-ed for The New York Times, Stevens recommended repealing the amendment as a first step to enacting gun control, prompting Graham to say he is “glad” the justice is retired.
“I will PROTECT the Second Amendment … not REPEAL it,” Graham tweeted. “Like every American, Justice Stevens is entitled to his opinion, but I am very glad he is now retired.”
The GOP lawmaker added that he has “zero intention of following” Stevens’s suggestion, and criticized “out-of-touch” liberals for attacking the Second Amendment.
“Statements like this epitomize out-of-touch liberals who do not appreciate the important role the Second Amendment has played – and continues to play – in our nation,” Graham added.
Graham added in a statement that Stevens's comments should serve as a reminder to conservatives “just how important Supreme Court nominations can be.”
“It makes me appreciate President Trump’s nomination and the Senate’s confirmation of Justice Gorsuch even more,” he said.
Stevens, a Republican, argued in his op-ed that the right to bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment is outdated and misunderstood.
He encouraged pro-gun control activists, like the organizers of the March for Our Lives rally in Washington over the weekend, to “seek more effective and more lasting reform” through a repeal of the Second Amendment.
"That simple but dramatic action would move Saturday’s marchers closer to their objective than any other possible reform,” Stevens wrote.
I don’t know why anyone should get too bent out of shape over the possibility of an amendment eliminated the 2nd amendment. I have this funny suspicion that at least 1/4 of the states will always feel a hankering to maintain the implements necessary to #resist the tyranny that the big blue states would impose if they could.

Let’s do it....some Pubbie congressman or senator with brains and/or balls (if there is such a thing) should introduce a bill. One sentence: “The Second Amendment is hearby repealed”. Have a press conference....announce that they will vote no on their own bill, but it’s time to cut the crap. Stop passing legislation everyone knows is unconstitutional. Have Joe Manchin and Doug Jones vote yes and then go back and face the voters in West Virginia and Alabama. Make the demholes put up or shut up.
That would mean that nothing in the original constitution could be changed.

I recall the lasting “reform” HRH King George III wound up with when he ordered his Redcoats, the most powerful Army in the World, to seize the Colonists guns and ammunition at Lexington.
Stevens is outdated but NOT misunderstood....
What's your take on advertising it? Some criminals aren't aware of a neighborhood having guns, although fear of the possibility may make them think twice. I feel that the NRA stickers in front of my home let them know not to try anything. Plus the immediate 3 out of 4 homes around mine are armed. No crime on our block for the several decades I've been here.
