For someone to still be ‘doing’ High School in any form at age 21 usually indicates there was a serious problem.
Either he was ill, dropped out for a while (aka being lazy), or had behavioral issues.
When I was 21, the very idea of still carrying my books and sitting in class with High School kids would have be disgusting and discouraging. Sitting in class with College Kids was fine, and I enjoyed each year we could afford.
