Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke is taking heat for allegedly telling staffers he would focus on excellence and finding the best people to work at the department, not diversity.
Zinkes lack of concern over diversity at the Interior Department angered some staffers, who rushed to tell CNN. The news network on Monday ran with the chyron: Zinke angers many by saying its more important to find best people; Dept denies.
Each time Zinke was asked about diversity, he would respond, whats important is having the right person for the right job, or I care about excellence, and Im going to get the best people, and youll find we have the most diverse group anyones ever had, sources told CNN.
Zinkes spokeswoman denied he made those comments, telling CNN the anonymous claims made against the secretary are untrue.

Where are my crocodile tears? LOL
Yes, its so outdated. Identity politics rule.
Sounds like Zinke was an excellent choice. He wants to hire people who can actually do the job.
Go, Trump.
Go, Zinke.
MAGA
Probably a conflict between diversity meaning “we don’t discriminate on the basis of race/gender/etc., we want the best people no matter what”, and diversity meaning “we discriminate on the basis of irrelevant factors like race/gender/etc. in order to achieve a specific demographic outcome”.
Sounds like the ‘old complaint’ that there were very few Black Marine and/or Navy Chief Petty Officers and General Officers.
A few ‘well timed’ questions sort of break the bubble.
How many Blacks have made the USMC/USN a career?
How many Blacks have served more than their first enlistment?
Since the period I was/am talking about took about 13 years to make Chief and 20+ to make 07 (1 star Adm/Gen) chances are one is NOT going to attain the ranks in question in a 4 year hitch.
So unless one wants to make the Military a career, chances of reaching E7 and O7 are virtually nil.
You GOT TO DO THE TIME (or at one time you did)
OH NOES you mean someone wants to hire people who are GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO instead of just hiring someone based on their race even if they are not qualified to clean a damn toilet
If you focus on excellence you are bound to have some racial diversity and both men and women working for you.
Diversity is AN OBSTACLE to be overcome- not a goal.
I’m not far from your age and any black in a professional position was assumed by the virtue of him/her being there was assumed to be.
This was way before “affirmative action.
And did I say this was in Tennessee?
CNN is just like Segregationists the old Democrats of the “Solid South.
White was assumed to be “quality” and black inferior.
Who is the racist here?

“assumed to be of impeccable intelligence, ability and character.”
“Diversity” is a scam.
Diversity = failure.
The left really has no use for MLK’s dream because it gets in the way of liberalism.
So is the implication that we would NOT get the best person if it were also diverse? ...sounds racist to me to assume it has to be one or the other, they’re not mutually exclusive.
I didn’t know Kulwicki was a philosopher? Great quote.
I was thinking the same thing watching the last few minutes of the Kansas-Duke game. For some reason both coaches chose not to have players of pallor on the court. I wonder why that was.
Why wouldnt we want the best people?
Those dirty, rotten, racist republicans, bigots every one of them.
Zinke megabump! The poor libs can’t stand it. The adults are in charge for a change. May it always be so.
Without exception, excellence tops diversity.
