Since three-quarters of the nation’s direct care workers are U.S. citizens, then “these are clearly not ‘jobs that Americans won’t do,’” argued David Ray, spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which supports more restrictive immigration policies. The U.S. has 6.7 million unemployed people, he noted. If the health care industry can’t find anyone to replace workers who lose TPS and DACA, he said, “then it needs to take a hard look at its recruiting practices and compensation packages. There are clearly plenty of workers here in the US already who are ready and willing to do the work.”

especially in large cities.

Note how no mention of the fact that most of this is Medicare and Medicaid money. Only a small part is private money and LTC insurance.

Those tough on immigration need to solve (at least partially solve) this problem. Currently ex-cons are one major source of citizen workers for LTC-Long Term Care and HH-Home Health. Should we increase the steering of convicts into this field? They have a higher rate of abuse in this field than do immigrants.

Work US Citizens won't do needs to be taken seriously. If the working poor did not have so much taken out for their, and their employer's, payroll taxes, they would have more attraction to working. If welfare programs did not pay more than the take home pay of the working poor, then more would work and not go on welfare.

And are the elderly and disabled expecting too much of the workers? Should we just tell more elderly and disabled Sorry. There is nobody paid to help you?

Would the church and Christians and Jews and humanists who claim to care show up and do more volunteer work?

No. The elderly should brace to pay real Americans and legal immigrants at the market rate, without them having to compete against low-wage illegals. I’m okay with that.

I go to a lot of rehab centers/retirement homes as part of my job, each week 20 or 30 different ones.

There are lots of immigrants taking care of our old people.

As a rule, they aren’t liked, and often resented, by the residents.

Yeah, let’s put the elderly and disabled in the ‘care’ of people who have ZERO respect for our laws and the law in general. Sounds like a liberal wet dream - elderly white people abused, bullied and robbed by 3rd world types who kiss elite butt - but abuse the powerless...

Liberals are divorced from reality.

In other circumstances, the left would be whining about illegals being exploited.

I still think of the way the Haitian woman on the evening shift at a nursing home shouted irritably at my 99-year-old relative when my relative couldn’t understand the Haitian’s heavily accented English. I took the woman aside and kindly explained that it wasn’t a hearing problem, but that she needed to speak more slowly and pronounce her words more distinctly to be understood. I got a dirty look as thanks. Then I had a few words with management.

“Workers often receive little training”

“Ending TPS for Haitians “will have a devastating impact on the ability of skilled nursing facilities to provide quality care to frail and disabled residents,” warned Tara Gregorio, president of the Massachusetts Senior Care Association, ”

Are they skilled or untrained?

The author seems clueless.

OMG, all the sob stories coming out about how awful it will be without illegals in our midst, now we are supposed to feel sorry for the elderly since they wont be able to hire illegals for nursing duties...nevermind the stories about illegal caretakers robbing and even snuffing out their charges... Is anybody besides me tired of the drama?
