"All you need to know why this was a bad bill is to look at the roll call," a long-time Republican lobbyist emailed me Saturday, referring to the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending law.
Of course, he's right.
President Donald Trump reluctantly signed the $1.3 trillion spending bill Friday, but a careful review of the crucial Senate vote shows it was Democratic members, not Republicans, that actually passed the bill.
In another major embarrassment to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, his own Republican caucus opposed the very bill he negotiated.
The omnibus bill passed the Senate by a vote of 65 to 32 (with three abstentions).
Of the 65 "for" votes, 39 Democratic senators supported the bill with only 25 Republicans signing on. Republicans control the Senate with 51 seats.
Of the 32 "against" votes, 23 were Republicans, including stalwart conservatives such as Republican Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Cory Gardner of Colorado, Rand Paul of Kentucky,Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Mike Lee of Utah.
Democrats were so excited about the bill's passage, they could not contain their glee.
"We Democrats feel very good because so many of our priorities for the middle class were included," beamed Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, a Democrat from New York.
Schumer was especially happy because chief among his priorities was the funding for a $30 billion the infrastructure project in New York known as the Gateway program.

McTurtle must go.
Much better than Pelosi, they are all playing for the same team.
Tell me again why I should vote for a ******* Republican?
Schmuck is not so happy today. Meanie Trump floored him with one punch.
YOU ROLLED ME YOU ... YOU ... YOU ... MEANIE!
McConnell is an embedded tick on the Deep State dog.
...major embarrassment to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell....
he’s been an embarrassment for so long he don’t give a furry rats petunia ...he’s making too much $$$$$
Democrats are running as republicans and republicans are breaking new ground on the left for democrats.
They are conducting a $1.3 Trillion dollar mutual-admiration Circle ***k.
And both are battling and undermining President Trump to keep him from reforming the corrupt system they have built to enrich and protect themselves.
“Embarrassment”?
“Pleased”.
The Turdle is bought and paid for by globalist, lobbyist and DC elites.
He is the Head Swamp Rat in DC.
It’s not an embarassment it’s a defection.
McConnell IS AN EMBARRASSMENT
An awful lot of republican congressmen are calling it quits this time around. What’s interesting is who on the “R” side are throwing their hats in the ring to replace them in the upcoming elections.
But I agree, the Kentucky fried post turtle needs to go away. That POS and his socialist-democrat buddies actually thought that they boxed President Trump into a corner with this omnibus bill.
And with the epic trolling of congress by President Trump this weekend, in two tweets or less, I’m not going to rush to judgement on what He’s doing.
One Republican Passed it.
This game of pretending to be opposed to profligate spending and that there is any real opposition to bigger Government is played out. I’m not buying it anymore.
The GOP was the minority in the “Yea” votes and the majority in the “Nay” votes.
So what the GOP grass roots wants to know is why is McConnell still, today, the “majority” leader in the Senate. All he has done with the omnibus spending bill is lead his caucus to defeat and hand a major victory to his party’s opponents.
We need 25+1 GOP Senators who will stand as disgraced by the spending bill to oust McConnell from his leadership chair.
I thought the House at least claimed they wouldn’t pass bills unless the majority consisted of republicans. Another lie.
