Kids are typically expected to take a back seat when it comes to national politics and policy, but with what's going on right now that cannot happen any longer. I'm 16 years old, I'm a junior high school student, I cannot vote. That does not mean I can't do anything. It's time for students, everywhere, across the country, whether you're in a blue state or red state, to get involved, to speak up in your own local communities. It's time that students have this conversation at the dinner table with their parents and let them know that enough is enough!

And, they don’t care about no steenkin’ constitution either.
What ACTUAL kid refers to himself as a “Jersey kid”?
A sassy, disrespectful snot telling his parents to shape up?
What a joke.....
FWIW, it's up to the parents to not let their kids talk to them like that.
The Star Ledger of New Jersey is so much of a liberal rag I wouldn’t wrap fish in it.
Failed a grade or two?
I know its a teensy little word but sometimes it makes a difference.
Yes I did! Thanks for pointing that out, it should read: "Going on well over 50 years of gun ownership and have not shot anyone yet."
Written by an adult no doubt.
Your young and uninformed. Maybe one day you will grow up and know the truth. That is if the schools and others quit trying to brainwash you into becoming a mindless robot.
Down the shore escapades?
Dear Jersey kid. Violence comes in many shapes and sizes, and gun violence is just one type. Almost all violence that affects human beings is perpetrated by human beings - sometimes with guns, sometimes with bombs, sometimes with knives, sometimes with biological weapons, sometimes with poison, etc. etc. So, lets address the common denominator - human beings.
What do your classmates believe in? What do they think their purpose in life is? What do they think about the sanctity of life? What do they think about the music, films, and print media that glorify violence, misogyny, drugs, and loveless sex? What do your classmates think about protecting the innocent, including infants and the unborn?
What do your classmates think about the human spirit, and what makes humans violent? Do your classmates think that all human life is sacred, and wonder what allows people to ‘pull the trigger’ and kill? What do we do about this?
Are your classmates aware of how many young people, not much older than yourself have died protecting the freedoms that you and they live under? Have you ever thought about why we have locks and alarm systems for our houses and cars? Why we have police? Why we have to have a military to protect ourselves?
Perhaps with some deep reflection you will come to the conclusion that human beings are flawed, and those who want to hurt others will find ways to do this - irrespective of what we outlaw. Maybe you will understand and agree that guns have saved millions, and that we not only have the right, but also the absolute need to be able to protect ourselves. I am older than you, and I have been blessed with the years God has given me, and I see my life as less valuable than yours - and would fight to protect yours. I pray that you will see truth and reality, and that someday you will be willing to do the same for those who will be the youth when you are not. Think.
Woo-oo-oo! That M-1 Carbine might be worth a couple thou on the market. But an incalculable amount, when it’s yours, with memories. That was my first assigned arm as an ammo truck driver for the Service Battery of a 105mm Armored Artillery Battalion. I still have my Expert qualification badge for the M-1 Carbine, as well as for the M-1 Rifle.
There's a good reason for that, kid, as you are illustrating.
Yup. “Jersey kid,” “dinner table conversation” (remember Obamacare?). All strictly out of the playbook.
The school shooting this time is caused by a complete breakdown of the school system and law enforcement, particularly the Broward County Sheriff’s office. Are the student demonstrators protesting those government entities???
Families, such as they are, haven’t gathered around dinner tables since probably 1978 or so. How did this kid get so out-of-touch so young?
Well, little Zachery. If you bastard kids would stop shooting up the schools and murdering your classmates, we wouldn’t need no conversation at “the dinner table.” ***hole.
However, you'd be more likely to die of influenza (which is only the 10th most likely killer in the US) but at least you'll drown in your own fluids due to medial insouciance vs having a chance with a gun in your hand.
Shut up Zachary, indoctrinated, idiotic little boy.
You think you know more than The Founding Fathers?
The Victorians were right; children should be seen and not heard!
