Dick's Sporting Goods took the politically correct route to placate media pushed gun control after the mass murder in Florida. They banned the sale of the popular AR-15 type rifles and said they would refuse to sell rifles to people under 21 years old. Federal law requires that gun dealers not sell rifles and shotguns to people less than 18 years old. It wasn't the first time the controversial chain had put political correctness ahead of stockholders and customer.
The CEO of Dick's Sporting Goods said he's forging ahead with his new gun sales policy, even though he expects to lose customers.
“There's going to be some pushback and we expected that,” said CEO Edward Stack, in an earnings call with Wall Street analysts. “There are going to be the people who don't shop us anymore for anything.”
A couple of weeks later, sales have dropped, and so has Dick's stock price. Fortune magazine says that the drop in stock price should not be assumed to have anything to do with the store's decision to anger a significant percentage of its customers. From fortune.com:

What have you heard about Bass Pro? One opened here (Daytona area)just a few months ago, about a mile from Dick's Last I checked they still had AR 15s and still list them on their website.
You’re likely going to see firearms follow the trend of the cycling industry.
Specialized, Canondale, Trek and Giant dominate the market but don’t sell in any national chains. They are the purview of local bike shops or corporate owned stores.
Places like Dick’s, Wal Mart, Target etc. don’t care about the quality of their product they want price point and profit margin.
Now we see that no national retailer cares about their hunting or sporting customers in the face of any controversy.
The sad part is the people that would protest them are likely not even going to buy their black hoodies, gloves and masks for their local Antifa window smashing events from Dick’s. They have no idea just how stupid they are..
Also Mr. Stack is family of the founder and likely very difficult if not impossible to move. The way I read their stock owner’s report is that no one seemingly has more than 1-1.5% stake in the company and that’s from the institutional sized investors.
It would take one huge consensus and a proxy battle to move their CEO and that’s just not going to happen.
Easiest thing, don’t buy them at all and move your money to your local gun dealerships/stores.
Dick is supposed to sell sporting goods including firearms of course, that’s their business (what their owners invested in them to do)
DIck is not supposed to be playing politics with the company or its assets (management time, etc)

ps to Dicks ...you need to beef up your firearms department, too... it needs more pistols and better rifles... and better ammo for that matter, too. it is like a child’s store ... customer goes in and asks for any of 7 or 8 things... firearms and ammo alike....generally has to leave empty0=-handed due to the watered-down inventory. lots of rifles on display, almost none of which are of any interest except maybe for a cub scout training class

Having worked around Johnny Morris I can assure you Cabela’s is safe from progressive, communist, leftard ideas. Johnny Morris is a conservative icon, a very fine upstanding patriot.
Load up the cart with all the items you price check. Then tell the cashier you forgot your wallet at home. Make sure you have lots of small items as well as larger, heavier items in the cart. If enough people do the same, it will increase their labor costs and dent their profit margin even more.

Disk’s, at least as far as I know, was a recent addition to the Houston area. I went in the one off the Gulf Freeway one time and walked out after about four minutes. Academy is much better for my tastes.
