Once Again, I Ask: Why Vote Republican?
American Thinker ^ | 3/24/2018

Posted on 03/24/2018 9:06:46 AM PDT by Altura Ct.

Every few months, Republicans behave stupidly, causing their voters to again ask themselves, "Why vote Republican?" Supporting congressional Republicans seems an exercise in futility – Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown, ready to kick a conservative field goal, only to have Lucy pull the football away at the last second. I have asked this question several times on these pages.

We all know the words to the Republican song we have heard every two years for the past decade. The first verse was written in 2010, when Republicans claimed they needed to win the House so they could repeal Obamacare and cut taxes. The band played, and America gave Republicans the House. Obamacare marched on, and taxes weren't cut.

The second verse came in 2014...

What happened after that? Nothing but more excuses.

The third verse played in 2016...

Here we are in 2018, and the fourth verse of the song is playing. Republicans control the White House and Congress. Obamacare has not been repealed, and Mexico has not had to pay for a wall since there is no wall. The omnibus spending bill sailed through Congress. One point three trillion dollars in spending passed by the party of fiscal restraint. Sure, there is increased military spending, but there's only chump change for the border wall, enough funding for only 33 miles on the U.S. southern border. Instead, Ryan's and McConnell's spend-a-thon provides $500 million for a 274-mile wall on Jordan's border with Syria and Iraq, along with a wall for Tunisia, too.

Planned Parenthood is funded, as are sanctuary cities, with catch and release alive and well. Didn't Republicans run on defunding all of this? It's Lucy holding the football, and Charlie Brown taxpayers are left holding the bill.

Exactly. It's like going to a restaurant and having to choose between the boiled chicken or the rat.

Seems a shame we have to “hold our nose” everytime we vote. I did for McCain (should have stayed home) and Romney. My vote for Trump was the first time in YEARS that I had voted FOR somebody. (And now he’s sort of let me down too).

Tragically, yes. Democrats are cancer; Republicans are chemotherapy.

Oh, we've got a long way to go before we get to that juncture.

We vote republican because we can’t let Schumer get his 11 billion tunnel, or Planned Parenthood get 500 million if democrats were in power.

Rat, of course, but at least I know that the current chef is better than the one we would have had.

Did POTUS DJT pull a fast one on the democrats with the omnibus spending bill? Looks like after signing the bill he has sent a letter to the leaders of Congress declaring an emergency to rake charge how that money is to be spent, not Congress.

DJT already stated yesterday that construction of the wall begins on Monday...

What alternative? There is none. Nobody expected Trump to be the perfect person. But I certainly thought him smarter than this. Hubris always goes before the fall. Trump wanted the money for his buildup prior to taking on North Korea. He wanted to go to the talks armed with the spending power to bury any adversary.

Okay, he got it. Now what. We have a massive military sold for the price of everything we voted for. Because face it, nobody pulled the lever for Trump in order to get a massive increase in arms. It was border security, immigration, jobs, tax cuts and the end of Obamacare.

Indeed but both can kill you.

At some point we either resign ourselves to destruction or do something different.

You are absolutely correct. You should have voted for Hillary. She would have made America “grate” again.

The Supreme Court...all I can think of at the moment after that budget fiasco - but that’s certainly a biggie.

But also at the state level it appears Republicans act more like Republicans consistently. The battles in Wisconsin and other states over right to work, etc. have demonstrated that.
