In all the screaming, the one thing I haven’t heard is that the GOP could pass exactly the budget it wants with zero input from Schumer and the rest of the Dems if McConnell would jettison the filibuster rule.

In other words, this is completely, totally, on McConnell, yet no one’s yelling at him. Why?

Trump mentioned it today. It is a possible solution but it also carried great risk and could come back to bite us in the you-know-what.

“Hopefully Trump will use the funded army to build the wall”

I’ve lost my mind all day today and am now just getting to reading some of the highlights of this bill and came across some $89 billion in unmarked military spending and remember a couple months ago there was talk of using the Army Corp of Engineers to build the wall because they are essentially the best builders in the business.

I’ve set aside my anger and am now focusing on trying to figure out why this bill was passed so quickly with an initial diagnosis that one of the best negotiators in the world got hoodwinked. Once you can eliminate emotion, and trust me, it has been hard for me, none of this makes sense financially or politically so something has to be up.

If McConnell eliminated the filibuster tomorrow, the first thing we'd learn is that the Republican Party can't even get 50 votes on any bill of substance in the U.S. Senate.

THAT is why the GOP doesn't dump the filibuster.

Nice rant. Carry on, good sir.

#26: " Once you can eliminate emotion, and trust me, it has been hard for me, none of this makes sense financially or politically so something has to be up."

Yes, I've been trying to figure out where the "art of the deal" is in all this. What did Trump get out of it?

One possible scenario is that leaders from both sides of the aisle promised to not impeach Trump in return for signing the bill. This "deal" obviously would not be made public.

It's possible. In anycase where's the deal here? He threw all his base under the bus, what does he get in return? It's not beyond the realm of the possible that Mueller really does have something on Trump.

No border wall.
Caps Ice Police
Caps number of Illegals Detained
Gives money to Jordan for border wall.
Gives money to Vietnam for military
Gives money to China for economic enhancement?
Gives money to Sanctuary cites.
Gives money to Planned Parenthood
Does not defund Obama care.
Gives congress a pay raise.

So what did we get? The bill!

Don't always agree with you, but THAT is drop dead correct.

IMO, for at least two reasons:
i) it would reveal the extent of the RINO rot in the GOP (your point) and,
ii) it would reveal the turtle's lack of leadership skills.

Oh, he will sign another one like this....maybe even worse. Congress has his number and there is no going back.

Simple fact the government was too big, too powerful and too corrupt for Trump to do anything he said he wanted to do.

Trump had to sign this as a matter to save himself politically. If he vetoed it and the government shut down, it would be 24/7 news coverage of how this is Trumps disaster and his approval rating woul go from the mid 30’s to the teens. The Dems would with certainty win control of Congress and Trump wouldn’t be able to run for re-election in 2020.

I have said before this is still a rapidly dying country. It is headed for fiscal collapse. Enjoy your MAGA and you American dream lifestyle now because in a year or too, it will all be gone. Your job will be gone. Your home will be gone. You will have no income and the government won’t have money for handouts. It’s going to worse the Venzuela.

Trump will get all the blame as it will happen on his watch. But really ], every POTUS since LBJ has done their part to contribute to this collapse. Trump just the poor prick that was in office when the SHTF.

Why Mr. Norseman, the Republicans already ARE passing the budget they want. You seem to suggest the GOP’s interests are materially different than the Democrats.
