Trump signs $1.3 trillion spending bill despite veto threat on Twitter
Washington Post ^ | March 23, 2018 | John Wagner and Mike DeBonis

Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump said Friday afternoon that he had signed the sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and averted a government shutdown. In a morning tweet, Trump said he might veto the omnibus bill because it does nothing to address the fate of young undocumented immigrants known as “dreamers” and does not fully fund his border wall. But speaking to reporters at the White House about four hours later, Trump said he had decided to sign the bill despite his reservations, arguing that it provides much-needed funding for the military, including a pay increase for troops and new equipment.Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump said Friday afternoon that he had signed the sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and averted a government shutdown.

Thanks, very much, for the (detailed) reply.

I’ll re-read (about to run errands) and then show this to hubs.....who, btw, hasn’t “listened” to anyone else, on this. He didn’t even have time to watch any news, yesterday, and wasn’t aware that the bill had been signed, until I told him, late yesterday afternoon. He just thinks there were other options and saw the (negotiating) ball in POTUS court.

Sorry you’re getting attacked, dear E1. I don’t doubt that some of the naysayers, who seem to have their ‘jumping in point’ timed just right, are DNC trolls.

Yes, It could play out that way, but Trump is dead to his base as it stands now. My (hope)would be that Collins and Murkowski would ultimately vote for majority reconciliation on the rules, rather than become the focus of a shutdown. Murkowski is in trouble at home and might blink first, leaving Pence to break a tie.

“If” we get to a bicameral bill Reconciliation Committee, then it’s a new ball game, “if” the Republicans hold together on Defense and border wall spending. Trump lost a lot of political capital by signing this bill and that will restrict his negotiating effectiveness with GOP House Leadership and Demos. He now has nothing to lose when he agreed to a two-year budget deal. Apparently, Gen. Mattis got to Trump not to risk Defense funding by a veto and re-do.

This was a mistake. Our greatest threat is currently not from without, but from within by the Left’s success at corrupting our Constitution, culture and fundamental institutions. They are now poised to take back the House and all that implies. Even if the D’s clawed-back several billion out of Defence in House-Senate renegotiations they could not dare eliminate or deeply cut Defence.

Trump, to regain his base and the initiative, he must throw a Hail Mary now to hold the house and any chance at reelection. A Veto would have been easier, now he has nothing to lose. Time to go for it, and show his base he’s the man they voted for.

9hope)

If anything this should make republicans more motivated to put more of the right people in office so it doesn’t happen again. And that is truly the way to make it not happen again, change the people who write bills like that. They are the root cause problem, not Trump. Blaming Trump is a short sighted symptom treatment that will never cure the root cause.

There has to be a supplemental bill funding the wall, and another resolving DACA. Keep them separate.

Trump is dead to his base as it stands now.

Speak for yourself. If that is the case, the conservative movement as a whole as dumb as the Republican party. Stupid party, stupid movement.

It beyond moronic to throw the one person with power under the bus that has been advancing a conservative agenda.

Dems and liberals win because they are smarter. They allow their politicians to make a mistake every now and then as long as that politician is advancing their goals overall.

The Republican House members that voted for this are on their own. There is nothing Trump can do to save them.

Two and half years is eternity in politics. If the economy is doing well and Trump is governing as a conservative, no one will remember this bill.

I predict a 100 seat Dem gain

I wish I could bet you on that. That is absurd prediction.

According to Scott Rasmussen, there are only 68 Republican seats even potentially in play.

f you think immigration legal or illegal is going down your are just not too smart.

It HAS going down. Educate yourself. All you do is blather on without thinking:

Corporations and small businesses received tax relief and benefited from billions of dollars cut in regulations. THAT HELPS AMERICAN WORKERS. When businesses have more money, they expand their businesses and hire more workers, increase wages and give bonuses to workers.

If you're not pleased with that, you're not a conservative.

Turmp's economic policy will create an economic boom. That is why the stock market has dramatically increased since he became President.

Congress didn’t have the votes for an override in both houses. It requires a super majority, and those that didn’t vote for this monstrosity were up in arms against it.

I suspect that Trump has some sort of...uh...trump card up his sleeve and he’s going to play it right after the MSM is done having its orgasm and cigarette after. Something like “either you come home from your vacation and completely reverse this, and institute what I say, or you will be indicted for your complicity in x,y and z. Now that we know what you a—holes are totally about, we’re going to be taking down names and preparing the guillotine for the mid-term elections.

I have no factual basis for this belief, just a gut-level faith in my hero. It ain’t so. Hold the fort. The cavalry’s coming.

“You, sir, are a fool if you believe that.”

You sir are a fool to believe I’m a fool for believing President Trump means what he says about not allowing another Omnibus bill to pass his desk signed.

There’s a lot more going on and the gutting of the military had to be stopped.
That’s what drove this one-time signing.

President Trump goes back on offense, abroad and at home.
He’s going to show everyone he means exactly what he says.
Justice is coming and so are the indictments of the Deep State.

You’ll see.

Oh ye of little faith.

President Trump is jumps ahead of the Swamp.

President Trump is nowhere near “dead to his base”.

Yet it’s some how it is all President Trump’s fault???

No one is blaming Trump for the bill, they are blaming him for signing it. He could have vetoed it and let them over ride the result would have been the same. The bill would have became law and Trump could have maintained faith with his base. Saying they should suck up and take it isn't working.

You have excellent gut instincts.

What you said is actually very logical and makes sense.

We need to continue to support Trump, he is trying to clean up the swamp, but that takes a bit of time.

We may have lost a battle, but we can still win the war — if we don’t support Trump, we are helping the enemy who is truly out to destroy the country.

Hope we’re both right. Right now, it’s devastating. Was listening to the Rush Podcast from Friday an hour or so ago, and he was losing it, freaking out.

I heard Rush when Trump signed. One of the very few times I have been disappointed in his instantaneous reaction ... however, I expect he will walk it back.

Rush is a great treasure, and has been a Trump supporter all along, as I have said many times on FR. His method was often misunderstood by some here.

I hope Rush will consider that: Trump HAD TO GET THE MILITARY money—NOT because of campaign promises, but because we are going to NEED OUR FORCES soon. It is the ONLY answer for NorK and Iran ... and we need to dissuade China and Russia from thinking they want to oppose, either during the actions or in their aftermaths.

BTW, you can see President Trump putting together regional coalitions for BOTH these actions to occur in the near future. I could see NorK happening before the 2018 election if the Summit does not reap IMMEDIATE RESULTS.
