Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump said Friday afternoon that he had signed the sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and averted a government shutdown. In a morning tweet, Trump said he might veto the omnibus bill because it does nothing to address the fate of young undocumented immigrants known as dreamers and does not fully fund his border wall. But speaking to reporters at the White House about four hours later, Trump said he had decided to sign the bill despite his reservations, arguing that it provides much-needed funding for the military, including a pay increase for troops and new equipment.Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump said Friday afternoon that he had signed the sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and averted a government shutdown.

I thought you said you weren’t new here and had been here longer than me.
Thanks for a voice of calm and reason. I hope and pray you are right.
You are SPOT ON but unfortunately you are talking to someone that’s not very bright.
Oh, what a little knight in shining turd armor you are to protect the downtrodden newbies from mean ole turd shining me. You seem to be the one that needs a turd safe space.
So how much did you contribute to this past Freepathon that just ended and the ones before that since your known date of membership here? You and I had never had any communication before this day. So don’t use me for an excuse!
another elite member of society ASSIMILATES INTO THE SWAMP
DC is just like the Borg collective
This may have been mentioned, but I learned that President Trump was handed the 2,200 page document at 8 a.m. Friday — the day of the deadline!!! He was put in a very bad position because of our conniving government representatives. Some Congress we have — both parties. They waited til Thursday to pass the budget, and handed him the thick document the next morning, which didn’t give President Trump time to read it, much less do anything. If he had vetoed it, the government would have shut down, which probably would have damaged our credit rating, the Dow Jones would have dropped, etc., etc. President Trump is dealing with snakes and weasels. One man can only do so much. As another Freeper said, we need to do our part and elect people who will work with him.
A BIG DOULBLE BARREL MIDDLE FINGER!!
That is what we got! The Shaft!
It would keep us from sharing the guilt of electing these lying politicians.
The lesser of 2 evils is still evil.
.
Good grief, now you sound like Bernie Sanders.
Corporations HIRE American citizens and provide jobs for them. That was objective of the corporate tax cut.
Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski support PP funding. There are not the votes to defund.
If the Republican leadership in Congress was principled, it could exclude PP funding and let the Dems and Collins and Murkowski try to shut the government down until it is funded.
But, once the funding is the legislation, Trump gets the blame for any shutdown if he vetoes it.
Which every party gets the blame for a shutdown takes a beating the polls.
Prove it. I heard him say that only about illegals in general.
He always said something should be worked out with DACA recipients.
This was a bad day but I’m not giving up yet. Many seem to expect perfection from Trump. We knew he wasn’t perfect from day one (or should have known it). He is a mortal man and no mortal man is worthy of total worship. Trump’s comments show he knows he messed up.
I think fear is getting to him. I think those surrounding him are whispering that he must do this or that or he’s toast. He’s trying to please too many. His political capital has eroded due to the constant media criticism/agitprop. People STILL do pay attention to cnn/msnbc/nbc/cbs/abc/Hollywood/academia/etc. Trump’s presidency is now on the rocks because of it.
Now he may be in danger of losing many of his core base and he really will be up s**t creek without a paddle. I personally was willing to accept a small amnesty for the DACA’s provided it was below 1,000,000 in number. I could live with allowing them to stay and finish school and work but no citizenship. I still want chain migration, birthright citizenship, and the diversity lottery gone as well as a reduced immigration intake. Trump’s in no position to bargain for it now.
No question about it, we are in trouble.
Why do conservative boards have so much infighting? Who cares who was here longer? Not understanding why grown adults can’t have difference of opinion without getting belligerent with each other.
I’m guessing part of the time it’s out of sheer boredom.
It seems you arebullying people into telling you how much they contribute, and that’s not becoming.
Ahh I love the voices of reason. Wish some others would just chill their knee jerk anger for a hot minute and look at things from a different perspective. This JUST happened. And it is not a forever thing. Let’s see what the president has to say in the next few days.
Yes, and hurray.
You keep missing the point.
No one here, least of all me, is arguing for Communism. Capitalism, free markets, economic growth - we all want that.
That tax bill picked winners and losers. Corporations were the big winners, and millions of middle class Americans whose taxes are going up because their deductions were capped or eliminated altogether are the losers. The Federal government required $1.4 Trillion in additional revenue just to make up for the corporate rate slash from 35% to 21% - and they went after our deductions (and they eliminated the personal exemption) because they need our money to "pay for" the corporate rate cut.
Now here is just one example of the fall out from this tax bill. Why do you think tens of thousands of Americans from so many states (Virginia, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Colorado, New York, North Carolina, etc.) were prompted to wait in long lines, just days after Christmas, to pre-pay a portion of their 2018 property taxes?
Virginia
Colorado
Illinois
New York
Why were they forced to do this? Because they filing to pay at least a portion of their 2018 taxes before the Federal government eliminated the deduction. But that was the last time. That deduction is now gone forever, because the Federal government needs more of our money.
Yeah, I know, complain to the states. State taxes are also ridiculous - but the tax bill was about Federal taxes - and they raised them on millions of middle class, and the corporations who are now getting billions in tax breaks are smiling all the way to the bank.
It's just the way it is.
Those are facts. If you cannot accept them, there is not point in discussing this with you.
