SACRAMENTO -- Four days after 22-year-old Stephon Clark was shot and killed by police officers in his grandparents' backyard, protesters gathered inside and outside Sacramento City Hall.
Officers believed Clark had been breaking into cars in the neighborhood and shot him because they say they thought he had a gun. He was only holding a cellphone.
"The death of one more man of color is one too many," Mayor Darrell Steinberg said earlier Thursday before the protest began.
Protesters clogged major downtown Sacramento streets near City Hall as the Thursday commute was about to begin. Earlier in the day, the city urged drivers to find alternate routes.
A large crowd of demonstrators walked onto Interstate 5 at J Street and blocked both sides of the roadway, forcing traffic to stop. Drivers were seen getting out of their stopped cars along the interstate.
In one instance a CHP officer grabbed a lone man and dragged him from the southbound I-5 onto the shoulder of the roadway. Demonstrators told FOX40 the man was not associated with their protest and was later arrested.

In both cases the police shot and killed an unarmed civilian.
If you run from cops to the point of needing a helicopter to track you, your chances of being shot are already pretty high.
As a law abiding citizen, you run, we gun.
I feel bad for this family. Not sorry, just bad. Their pain is the result of their very stupid behavior.
Parasites gotta protest.
So you think cops should, in the darkness and at the end of a long pursuit of a suspect, should wait to make sure the person advancing towards them with an arm extended doesn’t have a gun in that hand? I’m sure you would exercise such restraint against an intruder in your own home...not. You nitwits demand a perfect world, cops don’t live in that world.
Yes.
Im sure you would exercise such restraint against an intruder in your own home...not.
Let me ask you this. If you saw someone in your backyard and immediately opened fire then what do you think the authorities would do to you when it was discovered that person was unarmed and not a threat?
You nitwits demand a perfect world, cops dont live in that world.
So in other words, police have carte blanche to shoot whoever they want so long as they say afterwards that they felt threatened? So please tell me again, using your standards, why Justine Diamond didn't deserve to die? Night time. Police are looking for an intruder. She approached the officers from behind. There was a loud noise. In your shoot-on-sight world then that was a perfectly reasonable response on the part of the police.
I’m sorry, you are an idiot in comparing the two shootings. So no further debate is warranted. You may have the last word.
If you saw the video and heard the audio, the guy was told multiple times to show his hands. If he subsequently reached into his pocket for his cell phone, I can understand why the cops did what they did.
In your progressive cop hating mode you are blind to the fact that black youth repeatedly shoot and kill police officers.
Resisting arrest is against the law and failure to submit by a black youth is just stupid.
That's odd, yesterday I saw the whole chase and shooting on video. Don't know what you saw or were told.
That is not what happened, moron, and you know it. You just want to bash cops out of context of what led up to that incident. Which makes you cut from the same cloth as the BLM jackasses who still hold up Trayvon and Michael Brown as martyrs.
So then shoot all black suspects on sight?
Resisting arrest is against the law and failure to submit by a black youth is just stupid.
There was no arrest to resist in this case, just a stop and shot. And even if there was I don't believe it's a capitol offense. But in this day and age I will grant you the second part.
| So much for giving me the last word.
burn. it. down.

Here in Louisiana that has happened and the homeowner was not prosecuted.
I re-read your idiocy and realized it did require a rebuttal, jackass.
3 weeks ago in Seattle....
Guy was breaking into cars and shot at the police when they tried to stop him....he ran away, broke into a home and robbed the homeowner at gunpoint (in front of his kids and wife) of car keys, drove away in the car and had head on collision with police car a short distance away then he was trying to find his gun in the car (flew away from him in crash) and the police smoked him after he wouldn’t stop trying to grab the gun.
Such a nice man.
Maybe next time Stephon will think twice before stealing a vehicle. Maybe not.....
BTW, you are so right. If Stephon HAD a gun and killed the cop, it’s a local story only. OR if Stephon was white.
Under California law you would be prosecuted. Their Castle Doctrine requires you be in your home and have a clear and reasonable fear of peril or bodily harm.
Only Han Solo has to wait for the bad guy to shoot first. Modern police are not required to take that risk. I guess they aren't the Good Guys anymore.
