Congressional leaders finalized a sweeping $1.3 trillion budget bill Wednesday that substantially boosts military and domestic spending but leaves behind young immigrant “Dreamers,” deprives President Donald Trump some of his border wall money and takes only incremental steps to address gun violence.
As negotiators stumbled toward an end-of-the-week deadline to fund the government or face a federal shutdown, House Speaker Paul Ryan dashed to the White House amid concerns Trump’s support was wavering. The White House later said the president backed the legislation, even as some conservative Republicans balked at the size of the spending increases and the rush to pass the bill.
Talks continued into Wednesday evening before the 2,232-page text was finally released.
“No bill of this size is perfect,” Ryan said. “But this legislation addresses important priorities and makes us stronger at home and abroad.”
Leaders still hoped to start voting as soon as Thursday. A stopgap measure may be needed to ensure federal offices aren’t hit with a partial shutdown at midnight Friday when funding for the government expires.
Negotiators have been working for days — and nights — on details of the bill, which is widely viewed as the last major piece of legislation likely to move through Congress in this election year. Lawmakers in both parties sought to attach their top priorities.
Two of the biggest remaining issues had been border wall funds and a legislative response to gun violence after the clamor for action following recent school shootings, including the one in Parkland, Florida.
On guns, leaders tentatively agreed to tuck in bipartisan provisions to bolster school safety funds and improve compliance with the criminal background check system for firearm purchases. The bill states that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can do research on gun violence...

No one, including Trump ever discusses the alternative to increasing military spending and the deficit. Don’t increase military spending, lower costs by bringing troops home from abroad and stop interfering militarily in the affairs of other nations. Spend the money on homeland defense, not regime change abroad, propping up dictators, and allowing wealthy “allies” the luxury of not funding their own defense. Since WWII what have we actually accomplished with the trillions of dollars spent on military adventures in Vietnam, Africa, Bosnia, Afghanistan and the Middle East?
What the neocons don’t realize, if we aren’t intervening there are other natural balances of power that come into effect. India, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, Australia, and Indonesia are other players in Asia that keep China in check, not to mention Russia which has been pushed into closer relations with China by US anti-Russia foreign policy. If the US leaves the Middle East, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Israel will have to come to terms with Iran. Unfortunately the US completely disrupted the balance of power in the region by removing Sadaam Hussein.
The founding fathers consistently warned future generations against getting involved in “foreign adventures” and alliances. Their sage advice served us well for over a century as we stayed in our hemisphere and avoided engagement in the quarrels between nations in Asia and Europe.
Consider the trillions spent on armed conflict and “rebuilding” of nations we destroy could have been spent on a strong anti missile defense system for the homeland and a secure wall along our southern border. The average American citizen is much more likely to be killed by someone who illegally entered the country across the southern border than by an Islamic terrorist, a Russian missile, or a Chinese missile. The first priority of government is to protect the citizens. We spend trillions on “defense” yet we are not safe because we are wasting the money we are spending.

I have been telling people that for ages now. I’m far more likely to be killed by a drunk illegal alien and his car than I am by a terrorist. But no one in government seems to care.
Has Trump signed this legislation? No. So put your pearls back in your pocket.
I won't give up on the President (although I was very close after the Tax Bill that raised my taxes by capping and eliminating my exemptions, while giving away hundreds of Billions in tax cuts to Conservative and Christian hating Facebook, Apple, Amazon, and Google).
Trump is our warrior, and besides a few members of Congress, he is the ONLY one fighting for us. He is all we have.
But yes, isn't this the 4th or 5th time now that we have been promised that funding for the wall will be "forthcoming"?

Oh, and if they wanted to attached gun legislation to this "must pass" bill, why didn't they attach National Reciprocity instead of more assaults on the Second Amendment? National Reciprocity will prevent people from having their gun rights assaulted by anti-gun states, and will save lives.
