More than three-quarters of people who answered a poll on the conservative Drudge Report site said that President Trump should fire special counsel Robert Mueller.
Mueller is currently investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Moscow.
The online poll, which was posted on the site on Saturday, had surveyed fewer than 500,000 people on Sunday.
The poll comes after Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe over the findings of an internal review that said he provided unauthorized information to the press and was not forthcoming with investigators during the investigation. McCabe said he was fired as an attempt to undermine Mueller's investigation.
Trumps personal lawyer said on Saturday that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein should end Muellers investigation. He later walked back his statement, saying he was speaking for himself, not on behalf of the president.
Democrats have called for legislation to protect Mueller and some GOP senators have also warned the president not to interfere with the investigation.
Trump reportedly tried to fire Mueller last year but took back his order when the White House counsel threatened to quit if he carried it out.
On Saturday, he tweeted that the Mueller investigation "should never have been started" and called it a "witch hunt."

Some would say the tweets and/or the comments by his attorney are interference. Trump is not very patient. The longer this goes on the more information comes out about the deep state opposition to Trump and the more ridiculous the Mueller inquiry appears.
However, I do agree with the President if Mueller is turning his focus to the Trump organization pre-election this should be out of bounds. We were told this would not happen, but the media is making hay about it regarding the subpoenas for records. This would constitute a witch hunt that is outside the boundary of the original mandate. Rosenstein needs to clarify this.
The odd thing to me that more people have not caught onto was the indictment of the Russians. There were several statements made that indicated that investigation had been ongoing for a long time separate from the special counsel, yet they made it appear that the indictments were the result of the special counsel’s efforts. Why? That is an interesting question that needs to be answered before congress. Were they trying to inflate the credibility of the special counsel by allowing them to indict a case that was already made (and will never be prosecuted)? Would this not constitute “playing politics”?
The online poll in October 1860 with under 500,000 votes had Stephen Douglas trouncing Abe Lincoln.
Trump should fire Mueller, and also fire Rod Rosenstein for allowing this farce investigation to continue without any legal basis and without any legal bounds.
Well he better move forward smartly then
Another 6 months- a year - 2 years?
Comey is not getting any younger
Mueller spent 10 years on a case end p a loss the guy sued the gov. for 6 million and won yeah he know what he’s doing NOT he another want to be who will never be.
If he had any brains he would be busted for smuggling s**t.
Drudge Poll is very very accurate, like real life
During the Republican Primaries it mirrored what the real polling was
“And dismissed by the legislative branch not the executive branch”
I don’t think Congress has any power over him. The executive branch is the only one that can dismiss him, they are just being held hostage by threatening congress-critters.
Keep your enemies close.
What is the chain of command for Mueller?
Who does he report to?
Who pays him and his staff?
Surely a financial audit should be possible and required
Do these Mueller guys have security clearances? Background checks of him and his team for potential blackmail vulnerability or coercion?
These are not Trumps area
The corrupt partisan coup plotting FBI cabal crowed over blindsiding Trump
So who’s in charge ?
,
He could fire Rosenstain by promoting him
It happens
Removes him to another job
Maybe uranium control dept at Energy !
He reports to Rosenstein and Sessions, but Sessions has recused himself. He’s paid by the DOJ. The DOJ is part of the Executive Branch and answer only to Trump. This is definitely within Trump’s area, he just has been threated by congress-critters to leave Mueller alone or they will try to impeach.
Sessions should replace Rosenstains #2 and #3 with affirmative action picks
Then Trump should promote Rosenstain out of his present job
Note to future presidents: Get every Cabinet and agency head and their deputies to write letters of resignation before the inauguration
Then choose which ones to accept by sundown of inauguration day
Trump should just fire anyone he wants who is under his Executive branch authority. He has the Constitutional power to do it, but Presidents have gotten sheepish about using the power for fear of Congress.
Sure, Congress can whine “oh, we’ll impeach”, or “oh, we won’t confirm a replacement”, but impeachment is not going to happen and there are ways to appoint whoever you like at least temporarily without Congressional approval. This is a separation of powers issue, and I’d like to see Trump put his foot down and call Congress’ bluff.
