HIV Becoming Resistant to Key Drug, Study Finds

Strains of HIV are becoming resistant to an antiretroviral drug commonly used to prevent and fight the virus, research has suggested.

HIV was resistant to the drug Tenofovir in 60% of selected cases in some African countries, according to the study, which covered a 17-year period.

The research, led by University College London, looked at 1,920 HIV patients worldwide who had treatment failure.

Lead author Dr Ravi Gupta said the results were "extremely concerning".

Two-year-old article, so I’m not sure what “advances” have been made since then, or if the situation is even more dire now. But giving the virus a ready Petri dish as a constant lifestyle can’t end well.

Note: Tenofovir, the drug to which HIV is becoming resistant, is a key component of Truvada, the “HIV silver bullet” that is being billed as the biggest and best tool to fight it.

Funny that Obama ended banning travel to the U.S. for people who were HIV infected, and probably as a result, has allowed many of these resistant cases to enter the U.S. fag markets.

I cannot tell a lie, I’m couldn’t care less about their plight. That’s why I classified this also as “humor.”

Back in the day, they balmed Reagan for being slow to react to the spread of AIDS, and for not spending enough on AIDS research.

Any stupid virologist knows HIV mutates all over the place. It mutates so fast that when they grow them in viral culture you cant even pin down the original viral type cuz it has mutated so fast. Why dr gupta is so concerned is beyond credulity...it is an expected outcome. Like rust on iron.
