"I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces guarding our country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense." |
I have mentioned this in a few responses over the past 2 weeks. The cops were violating their own policy and procedure by not going in. I heard it about a week ago from a YouTube blogger “ mike the cop” who discussed the procedure with a Broward cop.

Not so much a rule, as a suggestion
I believe that “thinking” capable people will agree with what I have said several times over the years on FR on this subject.
Namely, we must be realistic, Many of us, including this writer, do not know WHAT we would really, really do when faced with the prospect of opening that door and walking down that hall and confronting a shooter with lead flying by the dozens of rounds. I submit fully half of police officers on duty now could not turn that knob and walk into the middle of something like that. And, never mind what the damn “manual” says.
Navy Seal training offers us a good contrast in training. They don’t take every one of the people that apply. Instead they carefully weed out a high percentage of applicants then 80% of those same “applicants”, or more, quit during training.
Why? Well, yes it’s physically tough but it is also mentally demanding. This means the training is designed to weed out the cowards. Most guys can’t swim under a ship in a harbor (with 3’ of clearance between the hull and the ground), most can’t jump out of an airplane in the dark and free fall for many miles into a hot LZ.........and on and on.
Yes, the Seals weed out 80%. Most police forces accept anyone that shows up and then most of them graduate and too often because some PC rule forbids being too hard on the applicants and particularly women. Then, many of them then hit the streets and when an active shooter is killing kids inside a building they freeze up, just like Peterson and others have done.
What, as a society, do we not understand about this TRUTH of human nature.
What’s the answer. Live gunfire training with NO PC BS! It’s pass or Ring the BEll !
I believe the Sheriff knew what his officers did not do and it’s why he was so quick to shout loud and often to change the subject to gun control and not the inaction of his officers.
Story seems to be intended to place the blame solely on those who didn’t go in and never mentions stories of a stand down order....with the POS “Sheriff” as just a poor trainer...
