Rep. Tom MacArthur, alone among New Jersey Republicans, has embraced Donald Trump with a full bear hug. Maybe he thought that would work out for him politically, but it's shaping up to be a disaster.
He's toast as a statewide candidate in Blue Jersey, where Republicans had hoped he might rise to the U.S. Senate or governor's mansion. And now he has fresh reason to worry that he could even lose his seat in Congress.
That reason is Conor Lamb, the rookie Democrat from southwestern Pennsylvania who just stunned the political world by marching into deep red territory and grabbing a seat from a Trump loyalist.
The ground is shifting, and it's happening across the country.
The district Lamb just won, Pennsylvania's 18th, voted for Trump by 20 points a little more than a year ago. It was the eighth special election for Congress since Trump took office, and so far, Democrats have beaten the party's historic performance in every one of them -- by an average of 17 points.

They forgot to mention that the democrat ran on Trumps vision and ideas.

There is a reason why GOP candidates are losing districts Trump won by a landslide. It’s because the GOP brand is irrevocably tarnished.
Years of disastoruous leadership by the Bush’s, Ryan, Mitch the bitch, Mittens, Mclame etc have caused this. Now there is a Republican President we can be proud of but he chickens have come home to roost for the rest of the party.
The GOP cannot be saved and should be destroyed. If I have one criticism of Trump’s performance it is that he is far too loyal to a party that is finished. He should start his own party and cast the GOP into the dustbin of history

New Jersey is liberal anyway, but I think we will have to run candidates that fit the district. If it’s a pro-Trump state/district, run someone who is pro-Trump. If it’s a more liberal district and the best we can get is establishment (and that’s generally better than a Democrat...but not always), then that person may have to distance themselves from Trump.
We knew that the tax bill was going to hurt Republicans in states with high state and local taxes long before the Pennsylvania 18th election. And saying that Trump was an asset before and a hindrance now is a stretch.

Exactly, no Republican running for president will ever win again without embracing Trumps policies. The days of the lobbyist driven Bush republican are over.
Hey Tom Moron. Lamb ran as a Trumpist to win that seat. If you saw his platform you would have thought he was the GOP candidate. Democrats in red and purple states will be trying to pull this stunt by appearing CONservative or more moderate than the typical RAT. We all know Lamb won’t be out there as a maverick. He’ll do what he’s told like every other RAT in Congress.
If this was true, then Jeff Flake would be ahead in the polls coasting to an easy re-election.
NJ is a lost State where you aren’t even allowed to pump your own gas.
We said early on that if’s Trump’s only accomplishment was the destruction of the R party, it would all be worth it.
