Scientific American continues on its activist leftward path, diluting its scientific brand by transmitting biased anti-gun propaganda under the cover of academic sociology.
The latest entry was posted Wednesday and has become a popular post: Why Are White Men Stockpiling Guns? -- Research suggests it's largely because they're anxious about their ability to protect their families, insecure about their place in the job market and beset by racial fears.
If that headline wasnt a giveaway, writer Jeremy Adam Smith's bio left little hope for an objective take: ....author or co-editor of four books, including The Compassionate Instinct and Are We Born Racist?
After pointing out that Since the 2008 election of President Obama, the number of firearms manufactured in the U.S. has tripled.... Smith asked So, who is buying all these guns -- and why?
His answer, boiled down: Dumb racists.
....The American citizen most likely to own a gun is a white male -- but not just any white guy. According to a growing number of scientific studies, the kind of man who stockpiles weapons or applies for a concealed-carry license meets a very specific profile.
These are men who are anxious about their ability to protect their families, insecure about their place in the job market, and beset by racial fears. They tend to be less educated....

Affirmative action and protected groups, and the downfall of white, Christian, heterosexual males.
I, for one, hope the left continues insulting working class and middle class Americans for their clinging to their traditional concept of the family, their religious beliefs, their small-government political beliefs, their desire to be self-sufficient (which includes gun ownership and a modicum of marksmanship.)
We know that the left considers us to be incredibly stupid and we know they despise us. But, due to our somewhat optimistic view of humanity, we need to be reminded from time to time of just how much the left despises us and how, if they get control, they’ll use government power to humiliate and oppress us.
Maybe they heard about Zimbabwe, Rhodesia, South Africa...
Baylor University sociologists Paul Froese and F. Carson Mencken created a gun empowerment scale designed to measure how a nationally representative sample of almost 600 owners felt about their weapons. Their study found that people at the highest level of their scalethe ones who felt most emotionally and morally attached to their gunswere 78 percent white and 65 percent male.
The US is 77% white (including so-called "white Hispanics"), so the conclusion is really pure BS. Regarding the sex finding, weapons owners throughout all human history have always and everywhere been predominately male.
This article does not even rise to the level of being bad science or fake science. It's nonsense.
Has nothing to do with racism as far as I am concerned. I don’t know about most white males but for me it is a romantic attachment to my firearms. I just love em. When I go for my morning walks I always rotate my Sig Sauers from my P-220 one day, my 226 the next, my 229, the next ....you get the picture. That way none of them feel left out and they don’t become jealous. I show unqualified love for each one. //sarc off//
Because they intend to build a white nation.
Just kidding, I do like to make these people crap themselves though.
Indeed. I believe the Waco Siege was a key event, deeply unappreciated as keeping the peace long term.
At the time, gov’t was getting feisty about enforcement. BATFE used the alleged paperwork violations as grounds for a high profile televised violent raid, “shock and awe” style. That their targets had guns, fought back, and resisted violent apprehension until final oppression with tanks, prompting real “live free or die”.
The result, in my impression, was that the government realized violent enforcement of laws is a bad idea - given proliferation of arms amid the general population.
To wit: an armed society is a polite society.
They have a hard time giving this magazine away for free. I can’t imagine why.
I have no concerns about my ability to protect my family. Whether it's a 12 gauge or the Glock 17 with a 33 round magazing for multiple intruders in the evening (yep, that happened, and after the fact I was pleasantly surprised by how prepared and calm I had been, and even more surprised that I didn't need to pull the trigger), or my 1911 for another issue, I'm fully ready to defend my home and my family. If necessary, I could go with a rifle too, but I suspect I can handle every realistic threat short of a complete failure of law and order without needing a long rifled barrel.
I have not had any fears about the job market in decades. We've been told that "you didn't build that", but I did. I built my own company with 15 hour days, six days a week, and part days on the seventh day most weeks. I succeeded. I retired a few years ago, still perfectly healthy. No professional or financial worries at all.
Racial fears? Nope. I don't have any interest in a person's ancestry, just their personality, character, and abilities. I'm prepared for thugs of whatever race, and I don't care whether they are #BlackFelonsMatter, La Raza, SEIU/AFL-CIO/Teamsters, or MS-13. I'm prepared to deal peacefully with decent people, as individuals, not based on their diversity points. Deport all illegals, whether they are from Mexico or Munich, Africa or Australia. It's about the rule of law, not skin tone.
Less educated? Nope. I've been offered faculty positions at multiple top-tier universities, where my educational resume is better than the vast majority of their professors. The author missed on every point. I could go on, but we all know his entire article is equally flawed. Once again, this is just:
#FakeNews
“...special permission to shoot automatic weapons, man you talk about fire power.”
I work at a site fairly often where the military police practices. I listen to the racket that they make, and think that if it ever came to a them against us thing, we would have a difficult learning curve. A rifle behind every blade of grass doesn’t do much good until they get organized.
I have degrees in geology, and pharmacy. I collect guns and shoot them. It is my sport and also my ability to defend myself. My best friend and shooting partner has 3 masters degrees and is soon to finish a fourth. He has more weapons than I.
We are not uneducated nor of low IQ.
So true! One thing that did impress me, their marksmanship, was outstanding.
Me too also, got me one of them there
degrees 42 years ago. Raised two white
privelidged kids, and kept the wife in
the kitchen. She’s Dang good at skinnin
squirrels. My grammar, sentence structure,
is good, as I can scifer just about
anything. Sure wished I was as smart
as a Democrat. By now, gotta rub the
guns down with some coal oil.
That’s why I’m all stocked up. I’ve cracked open way more than my share of history books, and I can see where this is going.
