Russia is to expel 23 British diplomats amid tensions over the nerve agent attack on a former spy and his daughter in the UK.

The Russian foreign ministry said staff from the UK's Moscow embassy would be expelled within a week.

It also said it would close the British Council in Russia, which promotes cultural ties between the nations, and the British Consulate in St. Petersburg.

The move comes in response to Britain's decision to expel 23 Russian diplomats.........

From Russia With Love......sarc

Glenn Beck says the "war has already started" with Russia and he's talking about things like sanctions coming from this country.

I guess Glenn didn't get it from watching "Hogans Heroes" about what "the Russian Front" meant.

Well I hope no war is coming but Peter Hitchens thinks Russia was sending a warning with this incident about how dirty a war could get.

There are a handful of elderly Russian historians (who were Soviet dissenters) that have been warning about this and more since the moment Vlad Putin stepped into power in 2000 - to no avail - and with little heed to their warnings paid either by their compatriots or Western hearers.

Peter Hitchens is clueless. He is a pampered Westerner living in a bubble even when in Russia and thinks the West’s inadequacies give one license to pray Putin’s *faux* front of “Christianity” and “political incorrectness.”

In actuality: Putin’s regime is Stalin part II tailor fit and adjusted for the new globalized information era. And he wants the Cold War back and has convinced his people that the USSR collapse is conditionsl and must be avenged.

This BBC article is so biased and professional disgraceful that I would suspect (if I were of suspicious mind), that the writer was pro-Soviet/Russia, a British Marxist in the closet, or taking orders from the heads of the BBC who have been traditionally viciously anti-American, or all of the above.

No mention of the independent FBI Office of Professional Responsibility (i.e. Ethics). No mention of McCabe withholding important information from the FISA Court, “the Strzok Surprise”, the Strzok-Page collusion to undermine the president, and possible leaks of classified information to the media or others who were not entitled to see it.

BBC- British Bull Crap network
BBC- Blimey, British Communism network

NOTE: Something happened to my computer and this reply was jumped from the article on McCabe to this one on Spies.

Sorry about that. Have no idea what happened but it is not the first time that a Reply went south somewhere never to be seen again.

To provide the majority of you with a British perspective on all this, i.e. what is going on in the UK - the British Government is really very annoyed at all this. A "hit" on a Soviet Double agent, on our own soil, using chemical weapons no less, has really riled things up. In fact I've rarely seen such unanimity amongst the population and the politicians.

Even arch-socialists are openly saying this is "Russia behaving badly" and a firm response is needed. Of course, the pinko commentators are trying to do some damage limitation by deflection or questioning the evidence, or the old saw of "building international concensus" first (which means not doing anything now) but it's not going down well.

Being cynical, I think there might be an element of deflection going on with Theresa May too. The government she leads is not a strong one and jumping on a cause like this, which everybody agrees upon, is doing wonderful things for her and its popularity.

Anyway, this is not going to go away and I expect there will be further British diplomatic action. There's talk of freezing Russian assets or pushing the investigations into alleged Russian money laundering operations in London. They will almost certainly call for support from their allies to do something too.

“There’s talk of freezing Russian assets or pushing the investigations into alleged Russian money laundering operations in London.”

That will require negotiating with the Muslim leadership in London...

Yes, strangely enough not everything revolves around the Muslim population in London.

Our so called allies are damn determined to bring us into a war with Russia. This isn’t new with the UK. Their man Steele almost got Hillary elected who sure as hell would have had us in a shooting war with Russia in Syria. Frankly I hope the egg on May’s face is fatal.

Putin might drag Russia back into the soviet model, but Russia is slowly becoming more and more irrelevant on the world stage through demographic suicide. Which, probably makes Russia very dangerous.

Like the CBC in Canada the BBC is run and financed by the government. But the BBC budget is massive. They has certain bias, such as referring to Muslims as “Asian” and are very anti-Semitic.

Too bad the UK didn’t see fit to keep Steele under control or protect 1000 women from rape in Rotterdam.

"Of course, the pinko commentators are trying to do some damage limitation by deflection or questioning the evidence"

Yes, God forbid you ever do anything unreasonable like that. Question the evidence? Why that would be almost the same as showing a lack of faith in your government, wouldn't it?

Brits. The original sheep.

“” “” Where’s the Beef Evidence?”” “”

Russian media speculates that Skripal’s daughter was engaged with a guy (limey) who had a relative working at UK chemical facility located a few miles from the site they were found poisoned.

Another weak point in May’s charges is they still failed to provide a sample as required by law so the whole story is still nothing but rhetoric on their part so far.

Even if their allegations on an agent used are true it seems like their capability to identify such things are out of this world. Just like it was the case with Litvinenko. Both Polonium and this stuff aren’t the things cops and coroners has tools to identify that easily. Unless they have (had) some sort of inside information on what to look for.

Good question.

I don’t believe it, myself.

Assassins generally don’t leave their calling cards at a crime scene so the Miami CSI team can conveniently wrap up their investigation within an hour.

Also, the majority of Russia’s foreign assets are located in the UK (London) so any predictable sanctions would end up harming Russia more than anyone else.

I just don’t believe the Russians sacrificed tens of billions in assets just so they could kill some guy who really isn’t that important anymore.

To me this looks more like someone was trying extra hard to frame Russia so the predetermined outcome of increased sanctions could be applied.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry that the Russians bumped off a defector in Britain and people are quite upset about it.

This isn't new for sure. A very large number of Russian defectors "commit suicide" or meet with "unfortunate accidents" in Britain.

So let me get this straight. The BBC is unreliable because it is funded by the British government, except when it tries to cover for the attempted murder of two Russian defectors with a nerve toxin developed and deployed by the Russians? The cynical might conclude you think questioning the evidence is ok then because it accords with your own preconcieved prejudices. And you call US sheep?

Look I know there is a section of the hell-yeah Yankee-doodle neoliberal Mothers apple pie brigade who like to stick their tongues up Vladamir Putin's a$$ because he happens to be fighting against the new American boogeyman ISIS, but the simple fact is he's fighting the Muslims for HIS benefit, not yours. The man is still an autocratic dictator who plays upon the fears of the Russian populace to keep himself in power. And nothing plays upon fears more than this kind of thing.

Either the Russians carried out this hit, or some of their Agents have gone rogue and carried out this hit, or someone they have sold or given this stuff to has carried out the hit, or they've lost or had it stolen by someone. In any of those eventualities, they have some questions to answer.
