"A fire has been reported in a below-deck container on board the U.S.-flag containership Maersk Kensington in the eastern Gulf of Aden, the second such incident to hit a Maersk Line vessel in recent weeks. "
The one last month....
Maersk Honam fire in the Arabian Sea.

ask Q ...
Sabotage or cheap lithium batteries.
ask George Webb
Well, there goes that shipment of Babylonian Tupperware.
I hope my cargo is not on that vessel....
Lithium batteries?.............
Shipment of Teslas?.................
That looks like it’s going to be a problem.
Not a small fire. Fighting such a fire would be extremely difficult, since the ignition source is likely locked and sealed by customs, and several decks down.
You also have to move the firefighting water off as quickly as possible, or you are going to have stability issues.
Worst part of this is that the fire looks to be aft of the castle, and moving forward. In this picture, you almost have to abandon ship at that point just to ensure your lifeboats survive the blaze (and you with them).
It was...4 confirmed dead and 1 still missing and presumed dead.
Rest of the crew got off with minor injuries. Fire is mostly out and looks like Maersk and the salvage company are towing it to Mumbai.
“Aft of the castle”?
It is forward of the accommodation/deck house. It didn’t necessarily start below deck, it could have started on deck (they are stacked 8 high).
They did abandon ship (albeit with 4 dead crewmates left behind and another one is missing and presumed dead).
One of the worst containership fires ever was caused by mis-declared fireworks.
I would like to put a line on that!
That looks like the end of ship where the bridge is. BAD JUJU...
I'll pass it to you!
