After using her parents credit card to rent a house in which to throw a wild party, a Canadian 14-year-old is in major trouble $20,000 worth, actually. Thats the amount of damage the teens caused, and which her parents must now pay.
Last week, police responded to a call that reported an uncontrolled party at a neighborhood home in West Vancouver, where nearly 200 teens were seen flooding out once officials arrived, according to CTV News. Left in their wake was a house with much destruction to walls, furniture, and artwork, all of which her parents will be held accountable for.
According to the police report, the young girl responsible for the event had used her parents credit card without their permission. But the parents will still have to find a way to pay.

When will the Tide Pods be held responsible?
She did this at 14 y/o? I see a bleak few years for these parents.
Im wondering what kind of idiot rented a house to a 14 year old girl.
Its a $20,000 lesson that 14 yr old girls don’t host parties for 200 other teens.
Didn’t you read the article? She used her parent’s credit card. So they had no way of knowing she was 14.
Priceline.
Can a 14 year old enter into a legally binding contract to rent real estate??
That shouldn’t even be legal? But it was probably ID fraud on the part of the girl in an internet transaction?
Guessing that this was transacted on-line.
And yet there was surely a physical meeting where someone handed over a key?
Had that been my daughter she would be thrown to the legal wolves including juvenile/jail, all restitution and had every single possession of hers sold off except her new state issue.
While it’s unfortunate what happened, a 14 year old is unable to enter into binding or legal contracts. They are not able to obtain or use credit accounts. They are not able to rent property (this illustrates why nicely) and the parents were unawares.
Mom & Dad need to tell them to get bent. She is not blameless and should be required to make restitution, but that is a different matter.
Who knows...
It’s Canada and the story is pretty light on facts.
Yes I read the article, but there is no way I would ever rent a piece of property to someone Id never met.
Perhaps I should modify my comment: Im wondering what kind of idiot rents a house to a 14 year old girl theyve never met.
No. Kids cannot contract. Owner had some duty to vet renter.
What was the theme of the Party, Ban Guns?
The rental cost for the night was $777. No one knows the true
damage yet but some say it will be high
For the parents to get off the hook they will have to file a police/credit card fraud complaint which then puts the credit card company on the hook for the funds and the kid on the hook for the crime.
Hard choice for the parents, to throw your kid to the wolves to save the money. I’m not sure, as a minor, how long she would be subject to criminal and financial responsibility but, if I could hope to keep my kid above water, I would try.
Drowning people often drag down their rescuers.
Maybe it was “We love Trudeau!”
