The internet searches are not working either.
www.mcm-us.com/news/mcm-awarded-fiu-pedestrian-bridge-project shows error message.
But it's an article about the company winning the bridge construction bid. The text on the search shows:

"MCM Awarded the FIU Pedestrian Bridge Project |After a grueling 18 month selection process, three submittals and many sleepless nights, the MCM Civil Department secured another win! This $9.3 million project will be an iconic cable-stayed pedestrian bridge, connecting the city of Sweetwater with the northern entrance of Florida International University (FIU) over 8th ... "

It looks like the builder didn't spend enough time understanding this section of the FIU-University City Prosperity Project - Pedestrian Bridge Design Criteria:

4.0 DESIGN LOADINGS ....................................................................................... 9
4.1 Dead Loads ........................................................................................................9
4.2 Additional Dead Loads...................................................................................... 10
4.3 Live Load .......................................................................................................... 10

Interesting-

Looking at rendering of completed bridge, there is a pylon, suspension cables, and counterweight.

Looking at the actual (fallen) bridge, there's no evidence of pylon or cables or counterweight.

Was the idea to add these features later?

Bad plan.

“Compare the photo in #4 and #44.
The photo in #4 seems like that span was put up without the suspension elements shown in #44.
I don’t see remnants of what would be called the cables in a regular suspension bridge.”

Yep, I think you called it. The shoring should not have been removed until the suspension cables were installed. I think I can see the anchor bolts in place, but no suspension cables.

From another story that has a bit more details. The bridge wasn’t completed. Was to be finished by 2019.

“...A pedestrian bridge under construction collapsed Thursday less than a week after crews dropped the elevated span in place over the Tamiami Trail in an effort to provide Florida International Univeristy students a safe route across the busy roadway.

The bridge, scheduled to be completed in 2019, collapsed atop an unknown number of people and cars underneath. Police quickly closed the road. It is not known how many people may have been injured in the collapse, which was clearly a major failure of a on-going project not expected to be completed until early 2019...”

Judging by the looks of the abutments, the bridge had not even been finished yet.

It's "finished" now.

That’s a damn shame. Figg replaced the collapsed I-35W bridge in Minneapolis about 10 years ago. No problems with that one that I know about.

Items of interest: “A 175-foot section of the overall 320-foot long bridge will be prefabricated adjacent to Southwest 8th Street on MMC and then moved into position in a single night so as to minimize traffic disruption to Southwest 8th Street.”

“This will be MCM’s first design-build project with FIGG Bridge Engineers, an award-winning Tallahassee-based firm. FIGG has designed bridges throughout the U.S., including the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge in Boston and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay.”

I’m sort of serious... I just looked at videos on FOX of the bridge, both before and after collapse. The main deck of the bridge looks very thin. And, where the bridge has broken, it has just snapped. I’d expect to see some twisted girders protruding from the concrete, but I don’t see them. I realize it’s a pedestrian bridge, not a vehicular interstate bridge, but I’d expect to see evidence of significant steel understructure amidst the debris of such a total collapse.

This is horrible.

We have to find a way to make sure this never happens again!.

We have to do something.

Parkland students should march against gravity, and skip school until gravity is banned.

Betcha those other bridges are being seriously looked at ask we speak.

I’m thinking more governmental failures.

State inspectors paid or bribed to look the other way.

No quality assurance checks. This is what gets people injured and killed.

What a mess. This wasn’t an accident; this was a completely avoidable situation had every one done their damned jobs in the first place.

There is no excuse for what happened. Period.

The 174 foot long bridge, scheduled to open to the public in early 2019, crossed Southwest 8th Street near 109th Avenue and was built with the purpose of allowing students living across the busy roadway to cross safely.

So I'm guessing no one was on the bridge, unless there were construction workers on it. But I can't find any mention of anyone on the bridge.

Smart Idea?
Arrogant college spending someone else’s money. Had to be new, unique and “special”!
These over-engineered tributes to higher education are a tribute to stupidity!
Rube Goldberg indeed!!

The bridge was part of a $19.4 million project grant, partially paid for from the Department of Transportation, and had been hailed in recent weeks for finishing ahead of schedule.

...

Wow. $20 million for a pedestrian bridge. How much of that was stolen by politicians and their friends?
