Dick's Sporting Goods on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter earnings that slightly topped analysts' estimates, but revenue and same-store sales fell short.
Its shares were down 4.7 percent in premarket trading following the announcement.
Net income totaled $116 million, or $1.11 a share, for the quarter ended Feb. 3, compared with $90.2 million, or 81 cents per share, a year ago.
Excluding one-time items, the company earned $1.22 a share, 2 cents above analysts' estimates in a Thomson Reuters survey.
Revenue was $2.66 billion, below analysts' expectations for $2.74 billion in sales.

“Well, I’m sure their little publicity stunt of not selling scary black guns and raising the gun buying age to 21 will really help their sales sky rocket!”
Right.
I notice liberals do/say destructive things when the going gets tough.
I go to Cabelas. Theyre not Dicks.
LOL
I’ve noticed this at other stores , where the hired help doesn’t know about the products they sell. Buddy of mine used to go to Radio Shack for various radio components, and was so annoyed that he couldn’t get good assistance at Radio Shack. The people who worked there were clueless. It’s makes you wonder how do retailers train their hired help.
Then again, maybe there is minimal training. But then again, a specialty store such as Radio Shack purported to be, is not going to be able to take care of the customers without knowledgeable salespeople.
People didn’t go to Radio Shack just to buy batteries off the shelf.
LOL!
good one.
But but The NY Post just said it was a great move!

I shop at Cabelas. They have a mens wear department, ammo, guns of all sorts, fishing, camping gear and their staff knows what they’re talking about. Friendly, helpful. I love Cabelas.
Maybe Dicks needs to start to serve their lib customer a bit more. Birkenstocks, bean sprouts, bear repellent etc.
They won’t sell AR15’s or magazines for them, but you can buy wheelbarrow loads of 5.56 to feed them.
I’d say at most retail stores the help doesn’t know much. They can help you find the aisle and that’s about it.
I’ve seen it at many stores.
Every time we drive by there my wife always remarks ‘There’s the Big Dicks’.
We laugh and laugh then keep on going. That’s about all they are good for.
Reminds me of when we’d drive the kids over a Dam. They could name all kinds of Dam things.
We have a fairly new Dick’s store nearby.
Everything they sell is overpriced vs. other stores selling the same or similar stuff.
Unfortunately, I can’t boycott Dick’s anymore than I already am. Haven’t been in since the LAST time they stopped selling those evil ARs.
Besides, how can they stop selling something they’ve already stopped selling? It’s too bad Dick’s doesn’t know the difference between playing sports...and playing games.
To your point, I’ve noticed over the past few years DKS has allocated an increasing amount of floor space to the estrogen crowd. And that is on the East Coast.
They apparently made the decision long ago to go in that direction.
You make some very good points, especially regarding many stores unwilling to stock or inventory anything. In that regard, I would love to buy local but often simply can’t because I am unable to find what I need.
With respect to Dick’s, that’s harder for me to say because I haven’t been in there in a good while although we used to shop there somewhat regularly. My recollection is that they had reasonable merchandise scaled from WalMart level to good quality stuff, but as I recall you really couldn’t buy much clothing from them as they were off-the-hook expensive relative to what you would expect to spend elsewhere.
Yeah, this was based upon Christmas sales targets but my point for posting, as you noted, was that I believe Dick’s has only self-inflicted yet more damage to themselves.
Let me just say that if I were looking to short a stock, it would be Dick’s.
Naw, that's what REI is for.
If I want something nice, I go to Cabella’s. If I want it quick, I go to Academy. I’ve been in a Dick’s once, and have never seen a need to go back.
And remember, Field and Stream stores are part of the Dick’s Sporting (except for scary guns) Goods family.
That is true.
Given their recent publicity stunts, I will gladly go out of my way to Golf Galaxy or Golfsmith; for outdoor or camping purchases, I'll drive a little further to our Cabela's. For anything else, I'll order online.
Yeah, right! I’m sure all the lefties are flocking to Dicks and Field and Stream for non-AR long guns, handguns, ammo, cases, holsters, cleaning supplies, targets, etc., etc., etc.
Gee...A sporting goods store catering to liberals....what could go wrong????
