Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy might retire from the bench as early as this summer, a GOP senator said, and if true, President Trump would be able to nominate a justice who could tilt the nations highest court well to the right for the foreseeable future.
"I believe that we're going to have another Supreme Court justice this year," Heller said. "I think that Kennedy is going to retire some time early summer. That being the case, Republicans are going to have another opportunity to put another Supreme Court justice in place, which I am hoping will get our base a little motivated."

We need it since we really can’t rely on John Roberts until his kids are old enough that they can’t be sent back to where they were smuggled into the US from,Central America and Ireland.Chances are good he’s been blackmailed ever since he decided that obmacare was a tax.
Any questions about how obmacare became a tax,its all been looked at pretty closely.
“Heller needs to be Cantorized”
Do you live in Nevada? Can you do better, or will “Cantorizing” Heller give us another Doug Jones?
Except for his homophilic and pro-death obsessions, Kennedy has been fairly conservative.
I hate to break it to you, but this Senate is going to demand any replacement be pro-LGBT and pro-abortion. There are not 50 votes to confirm what we all want.
So. I hope Kennedy stays until after January, when we SHOULD have at least 5 more favorable Senators to confirm a good replacement.
“Trump needs to appoint someone who will vote to overturn Roe vs. Wade”
Not with a strong pro-death majority in the Senate, he won’t.
Kennedy has already hired his next term clerks.
While this is all well and good, I’m looking forward to the day when Roberts “surprisingly” announces that he is stepping down (IOW, Trump presents him with proof that he was blackmailed by Obama and allows him the opportunity to gracefully fall on his own sword rather than publicly exposing and embarrassing him.)
One thing we have to take into consideration here. We are up against the clock. If Kennedy retires, we have until November to seat a new Justice. As we all know, the Republicans in the Senate held off Obama’s choices. Democrats will do the same thing until the election is over.
It’s up to Kennedy whether he wants to screw Trump out of a possible nomination, or help the country in letting Trump have a nominee. I think after the vote on Janus vs AFSCME Kennedy will retire.
The Bush League Republicans teamed up with the Democrats to defeat Roy Moore, same as they have done before in MO, IN, NV, DE, etc.
If they can’t have a Cheap Labor Express stooge, the Bush League Republicans would rather have a Democrat.
Anything to keep US from keeping the rule of law and our country.
Yes, it would be a slight tilt to the right. Kennedy is always a mugwump - has is mug on one side and his wump on the other. I think he is actually THE judge without a legal-philosophy anchor at all, and seems to vote with whom he thinks is “the majority” view, which in some cases is to the left and some to the right. It has given him the public relations press view that he is a moderate. Like I said, I don’t think he is a true moderate, he just does not have an anchor of principles in his legal thinking, and shifts to which ever way he thinks the wind is blowing.
I believe you will find that a good deal of that squealing will be from liberal Republican senators who realize that a conservative replacing Kennedy would change the court. I honestly look for Heller, the Maine baby ghoul, the Kow, Limp Wrist Lamar, Corkhole, CornFlakes and McIsane to visceral in some cases and or quietly come out against any conservative Trump nominates
Oops, that's RBG's age.
LOLOL
John Paul Stevens should have retired earlier, under Bush. Then we might have had a right-leaning court through Obama’s term, Obamacare would have been struck down and the states would have their own marriage laws.
