When World War II ended, America was about to swing into the most affluent, progressive and prosperous period of our history, and the pie was big enough for everybody to have a piece.
But our nation had a cancer rapidly metastasizing on its underbelly.
Some of the same soldiers who fought against the Germans on D-Day, Guadalcanal and the Battle of Berlin came home to find that risking their lives fighting America's battles did not elevate them above the second-rate citizenship they left behind when they went off to war.
Looking back and remembering those days quite well from my earlier youth, it all seems so silly, it seems such a waste, the implacable psyche that perpetuated this evil, tacitly denying a whole race of people the equal rights they were guaranteed in every federal paper our constitutional founders ever issued

Charlie Daniels is a great American...
He needs to get his wife, Stormy, under control.
And a great Christian......
Listen, America, your roots are in the ideas of liberty stated clearly in your Declaration of Independence and encased in the restrictions on government power framed into your Constitution of self-government by "We, the People".
After many, many conversations with the “grunts on the ground” in the War on Terror I can report the following informal conclusions on reasons that do not motivate them to fight:
1. No one is fighting so that a mother can abort her child up to the day before delivery for any reason.
2. No one is eating MREs for 6 months straight so that they can pay higher taxes.
3. No one is risking their life on a daily basis so that “Daddy and His Boyfriend” can be taught to our children in public school.
4. No one is dodging mortar rounds so that trial lawyers can sue companies and doctors into oblivion.
5. Not one grunt is sleeping in the mud so that one day he can register and/or turn-in his personal guns when he gets back home.
It’s no surprise that in those days after WWII, as our nation was getting rich, we were rebuilding the world, we were looking to a bright future, and Billy Graham was drawing HUGE crowds. It is all related.
;-)
Not one of these things is worth risking one’s life for.
Oh, so you noticed my tag line eh?
The faith factor was obviously in the middle of it all, and Billy was the man of the hour.
I’d like to be pounding on the faith doors of America as best God makes possible, but maddeningly I find it hard to rise above being a spiritual drifter. It takes trouble before I can see what God wants to do. Oh I stay small-o orthodox Christian, that’s not a problem, but the implications keep me looking around for answers and being unsatisfied.
What is a fellow like me to do? If I had the contacts, creds, and chutzpah I’d give Charlie a ring... But alas I am not thus placed.
Even to keep an imperfect deal from getting worse we might sacrifice. But if we don’t make that an offering before God it is all in vain.
Absolutely stupid comment.
We never learned that government control was bad.
Mandatory reading, and it should be quoted and discussed in every state house, every civic organization, and every school of learning.
Ain’t it fun. There is never anything checkered or grey. It’s all so black and white and we must condemn those who don’t round “correctly.”
With friends like that who needs enemies?

Why would you call sargon’s comment stupid? It’s 100% accurate: Charlie Daniels is a great American. Heck, his views are so like ours, he might be here undercover.
Heck, he might even be named Lazamataz!
