If you aren’t a samurai, then the man bun is a male bun at best.

"Hmmm. Who has a man bun?"I did, in college. In retrospect I probably looked like a douche.
Grew it out again last year -- my office is permissive as long as it's for charity -- but I ended up cutting it off while it was still a few inches short to donate for Locks of Love. Reactions ranged from "nice man-ban, bruh" To "what the hell are you supposed to be, Tom Cruise in the Last Samurai?" Moral of the story -- if you want to be taken seriously, don't try to do a man-bun. Not exactly a shocker but I think the phase where it was considered even remotely cool or avant-garde has passed.

I have a nice shiny dome. Some might call it chrome. Back in the late 60s early 70s I sported a pony tail which was the style at the time. I didnt consider it feminine. The women I knew certainly didnt consider it feminine.
Now today we see men with man buns. I gag and laugh at every male I see wearing one. But am I just doing the same thing my fathers generation did when seeing my long hair or pony tail?
Im not sure. But they just look wrong. Buns just seem to say snow flake

Are you carrying a katana? Are you wearing a kimono? No, not a girly one? Are you in service to a Shogun? No?
Then you should not be wearing a man-bun. End of discussion.

You may identify as a man, but your bun self identifies as either female or a Japanese warrior - probably a female since the Japanese had a samuraiectomy in 1945.
