Thursday, the Austin City Council amended and approved a resolution to give the city manager the green light to explore a policy to reverse gentrification in east Austin. The citys Institutional Racism and Systemic Inequities Task Force recommends that Austin adopt their own version of Portland, Oregons policy for bringing former residents back to gentrified areas. Austins policy hasnt been finalized yet, but it would give priority status to people applying for affordable housing in east Austin who are part of families who have lived in the area for years or who have been forced out by gentrification. According to city council documents, generational ties to the city wouldnt be the sole factor in determining eligibility, but they will be given more consideration under this policy.

Granted, East Austin (Mexico del Norte) is being gentrified. With the ridiculously high housing prices and equally ridiculously high property taxes, first time home buyers are going in and remodeling the older run down homes. If Amazon picks Austin as their HQ2, there will be even less housing available.
So what? Their area of town is now hot real estate. And sounds like leeches wanna remain there but live under the old price structure.
So i wanna be a cowboy, or an astronaut.
In other words, they want to keep east Austin poor. Socialists want to keep property owners from making money on their investments.
They're not just going to halt it, they're going to reverse it.
An excellent business opportunity for an enterprising person in Austin to become a contractor and work for the city f--king up newly renovated buildings and turning them back in to sh!tholes. Imagine how much fun it would be to get paid to vandalize a building.
If I was younger and did not live so far away I might go for it myself.
Also, it is very important for liberals to keep neighborhoods racially segregated. Without racial segregation, racial gerrymandering of voting districts is impossible.
What is reversed gentrification? Ghettoizing?
but instead, "gentrification" means people putting money into older properties and making a nice neighborhood....
IOWS...increasing the value....
if we let the leftists continue this trend of denying some people their rights in order for some other "special" people to get extra rights, then don't be surprised if they take all your retirement savings in order to make things fair...
HELP STAMP OUT IMPROVEMENTS!
KEEP OUR GHETTOS GHETTO!
Reverse gentrification basically means keep the place poor, dirty and low-rent.
Once again, Democrats prove they only survive on misery and discontent of their base
Long live MLK Blvd.
As a former resident of Portland, Oregon, what a mess. Let the market rule and if the illegals can’t afford to live in their sanctuary, too bad.
New rap song...”In The Ghetto”
My brother in laws priest in Chicago seems to preach against it every time we visit.
My wife asked him if all the minimum wage parishioners would be able to support him in the lifestyle in which he is accustomed once all the “new whites” leave.
We haven’t been back since.
Bring Back our Historic Slums!
In other words, Austin City Council says that capitalism sucks.
“City council looks to turn the tide of gentrification in east Austin (TX)”
ah, yes. Those of us who wish to Make America Great Again want to see slums eliminated by an economy that pays people well enough to live decently, whereas Progs yearn to bring the slums back ... See the difference?
It’s Austin. That’s all I needed to know.
Africa is taking the white's land and beheading them.
Reversed gentrification is ethnic cleansing. It seems that the wrong type of people are moving in.
