This is a one strangely quiet shooter/hostage situation. The latest news online is showing that the hostages were taken almost 9 hours ago. So far the gunman has refused all contact from law enforcement. I read the same thing you say, that the gunman is a veteran who was recently kicked out of the program.
I also read that there were fewer than nine security officers for the whole facility at the time the hostages were taken, and none of them were armed. This is the largest veterans home in the nation and California doesn’t allow any armed security.
It’s good they’re keeping it quiet....this is a veteran with PTSD from what I gather.( I knew a Vietnam fellow who suffers from this and it’s really intense in their mind when it hits.) Not sure why he took three vets there hostage but i’m glad they aren’t reporting.
There are three sets of hostage negotiators on the scene...in it for the long haul to hopefully bring the guy out and no one hurt.
Fewer than nine unarmed state public safety officers work at the Yountville Veterans Home in Napa County, where a man armed with a rifle exchanged gunfire with police and took three employees of a veterans counseling program hostage."
