President Donald Trump has agreed to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un by this May, South Korea's national adviser announced at the White House Thursday evening. He had briefed the president on a message from Kim earlier in the day.
The South Korean envoy said that in his recent talks with Kim, the North Korean leader had expressed an eagerness to meet with Trump as soon as possible.
He said that Kim had said he was committed to denuclearization, suspending more missile tests, and had agreed that U.S.-South Korean joint military exercises the North objects to must continue.
The dramatic disclosure came after Trump told reporters Thursday afternoon to expect a major announcement from South Korea.
That word from the president comes after a South Korean delegation met with top national security officials at the White House complex earlier in the day.
After Trump ducked into the White House briefing room to tease the announcement, ABC News' Jonathan Karl ran into Trump himself who told Karl the announcement was going to be a big deal.

Let’s disregard the Q info and the relentless arguments on both sides for now.
Do you believe that Kim will cooperate , per the statement in this article, or not ?
The whole issue of Q is fascinating. Is any of it true? I can’t rule that out. Is it a grand larp? I can’t rule that out either. In any which case, I periodically check in to see about the latest Q musings. Time will tell of course. I do not have to believe in any Q entity to read the postings.
As for those that are detractors, and there are many here on FR, don’t get your undies in a wad. Its just the internet. As for those that follow every comma and Q whatnot, keep a skeptic’s eye on the whole matter.
End of my outlook on the whole Q thing.
P.S. What’s GMA ? (listed as partial source of article )
Just think, Lindsey Graham was saying we should go to war with them, only about a week ago!
Waaa!If it ain’t on FB it needs to be!!!!
Well played!
In the end, it may amount to nothing and the future remains a completely open question. But, IMO, it's a very BIG DEAL that these overtures were made to this President, and no other one previously. You are, of course, free to disagree.
Also now that China is positioning itself economically on the Asian front and on the world stage entire it doesn't want a Nuclearized N.Korea knowing with certainty that if that were to happen Japan and S. Korea also follow for obvious reasons....and additional Asian countries likewise. An equation China does not want to see happen.
There has been only three possible outcomes with N.Korea...
..They went on as they have been and nothing is done because nobody knows what to do.
..There would be an agreement of some kind to freeze the Nuclear program which hasn't worked and everyone knows it.
Or
..A combination of factors developed to ‘remove’ nuclear from N.Korea and unify the Korea's over a period of time.
China's in agreement of the removal of Nuclear and unification of the Korea's.
Good on you for suggesting this q stuff return to it’s q threads.....This happening with N.Korea is ‘highly’ significant to say the least and changes the equations of many things on the world stage. Would not be happening without China and Russia’s co-operation which Trump has somehow managed to attain...and that’s Huge!
Or, the little Nork dies and South Korea has to deal
with it while a nervous China looms.
“Do you believe that Kim will cooperate , per the statement in this article, or not ?”
I believe they will never quit probing for weakness. If they find it they will exploit it.
If not, they’ll comply.
good morning America
I suspect something as well.
There are three formidable characters on the world stage....Trump, Xi and Putin. We know how strong Trump is and now Xi and Putin know as well. They have watched Trump withstand on onslaught in his own country as well as other International Leaders and the press... and yet he still stands strong....they do not want to battle with Trump.....
Better appoint another special counsel to investigate Trump NKorean connection will be the next headline by the media.
The most important difference isn't in his ethnicity; he'd have to be leftist for them to praise him. If he were the first black conservative president, they'd call him an "Uncle Don."
So you are saying that you expect President Trump to be drunk at the rally? :-)
Best post of the thread. Well done
It is is big deal, not to mention very unprecedented. Un clearly must understand he won't be dealing with stooges like Clinton, Bush's, Obamba etc.
We do disagree. I don’t think this means much YET. That’s why I say it WILL be a “big deal” if and only if it results in an ironclad verifiable and enforceable deal that ends NK’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
Everyone who is excited about this is assuming Kim Jong-Un is serious about concluding such a deal in exchange for.... we don’t know what yet, but presumably a lot that he finds beneficial.
I am very glad that POTUS Trump is the one driving this train, and I don’t think any other US leader on the present scene would have this “potential” deal in the making. But it is still only potential. The record of NK over decades is that they will lie, cheat, and try to get away with everything they think they can get away with. It is not a “big deal” until there is a REAL DEAL, imho. Maybe that seems like definitional quibbling, but I don’t think so. This is an opening, but it won’t mean squat if Lucy (Kim) pulls the football away. We will just have to wait and see. I’m not excited yet, but feel free to be as excited as you like....
Its ok, there are those on here that do not follow or understand the meanings of what Q posts. We all think differently and some dont comprehend information the same as others.
